After police fired upon Major Rashed point-blank and killed him, police and army chiefs held a press conference in Cox’s Bazar. The police chief claimed there this week that the term of ‘crossfire’ was created by the NGOs. But police officer Pradip Das, who was responsible for the killing of Major Rashed, had issued statement in support of ‘crossfire’ or ‘gunfight’, in a meeting at Teknaf Model Police Station on August 29, last year. In a video of that meeting Das was heard saying: “No journalist can say that we did anything unjust or wrong in any crossfire operation carried out by us…”. While explaining how police decided to conduct a crossfire, which is in fact an extrajudicial action to kill someone in a shootout, Das said: “…If intelligence input makes police believe that a person would never stop trading in yaba, they ‘make arrangement’ to deal with him.” Das is openly describing how police act as judge, jury and executioner. Sheikh Hasina rewarded this murderous police officer with the country’s highest police medal of BPM last year. A few months ago, in a video message, Das said that by December 16 he would make Teknaf narcotics-free. If needed, the houses of the drug traders would be attacked and set on fire, he said. In the past 22 months, in 144 incidents of crossfires, Das got at least 204 people killed in Teknaf. After killing them in shootouts he branded all his victims as yaba traders which apparently helped him ignore the law with impunity. Let’s not forget that Das is a member of the force of Bangladesh police that played a crucial role in helping Hasina rig the last general elections in their favour. Now, police have turned into a murderous force in Bangladesh. Das and also many of his colleagues are using their guns to extort money from people.

টেকনাফে মেজর রাশেদকে নিরস্ত্র অবস্থায় পুলিশ পয়েন্ট ব্লাঙ্ক রেঞ্জে গুলি করে হত্যা করার প্রেক্ষিতে পুলিশ ও সেনা প্রধান কক্সবাজারে গিয়ে সংবাদ সম্মেলন করে। সেইখানে পুলিশ প্রধান দাবী করে ক্রসফায়ার শব্দটা এনজিওদের তৈরি। অথচ গত বছর ২৯ আগস্ট মেজর রাশেদ হত্যার জন্য দায়ী প্রদীপ কুমার দাশ টেকনাফ মডেল থানায় সভা ডাকেন। সেখানে তিনি ‘ক্রসফায়ার’ বা ‘বন্দুকযুদ্ধের’ পক্ষে বক্তব্য দেন। সেই সভার একটি ভিডিওতে তাঁকে বলতে শোনা যায়, ‘এখানে কোনো সাংবাদিক বলতে পারে নাই আমাদের কাজের মধ্যে অন্যায় রয়ে গেছে, যেখানে আমরা ক্রসফায়ার দিয়েছি…।’ কীভাবে পুলিশ কাউকে ক্রস ফায়ারে মেরে ফেলে যা বিচার বহির্ভূত হত্যাকান্ড তা করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় তা ব্যাখ্যা করতে গিয়ে দাস বলেন যদি গোয়েন্দা তথ্য বিশ্লেষণ করে পুলিশ বিশ্বাস করে যে এই লোকটা কখনোই ইয়াবা ব্যবসা বন্ধ করবে না তখন পুলিশ তার বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নেয়। এইখানে সে প্রকাশ্যেই বলেছে পুলিশ কীভাবে জজ জুরি ও এক্সিকিউশনারের ভুমিকা নিয়েছে। এই খুনে পুলিশ অফিসারেকেই ২০১৯ সালে হাসিনা সর্বোচ্চ পুলিশ পদকে ভুষিত করেছে। কিছুদিন আগে ভিডিও বার্তায় তিনি চলতি বছরের ১৬ ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে টেকনাফকে মাদকমুক্ত করতে মাদক ব্যবসায়ীদের বাড়িঘরে অগ্নিসংযোগ ও হামলার হুমকি দেন। তার দায়িত্ব পালনকালীন সময় গত ২২ মাসে ১৪৪ টি ক্রসফায়ারের ঘটনায় ২০৪ জনকে এই প্রদীপ কুমার দাশ হত্যা করেছে। সব ভিকটিমকে ইয়াবা ব্যবসায়ী হিসেবে প্রচার করে সকল হত্যায় সে দায়মুক্তি পেয়েছে। গত প্রতারণার নির্বাচনে নৈশ ভোটে হাসিনাকে বিজয়ী করার কাজে এই পুলিশ মুল ভুমিকা রাখে জন্যই আজ তারা এক বেপরোয়া খুনে বাহিনীতে পরিণত হয়েছে। হাতের সরকারী বন্দুককে ভয় দেখিয়ে অর্থ উপার্জনের হাতিয়ার হিসেবে ব্যবহার করছে।
