India has opened all sluice gates of Teesta barrage. In 1998, India constructed Gajaldoba barrage 60 kms upstream of Teesta barrage. When there is flood upstream, India opens all 54 sluice gates of Gajaldoba and it triggers flood across vast areas of Bangladesh. During dry season India keeps the sluice gates locked and uses the water of Teesta to irrigate the farmlands inside Indian territory.
Last year floods caused by Teesta wrecked havoc affecting about 1,863 families in Bangladesh. Crops across vast areas were destroyed. Denying water to us during dry season and flooding vast areas of Bangladesh during rainy season India is routinely violating international river water sharing laws. This way India has made us a victim of its Water Terrorism.
পানি সন্ত্রাস
তিস্তা বাধের সবকয়টা গেট খুলে দিয়েছে ভারত। ১৯৯৮ সালে তিস্তা ব্যারাজের ৬০ কিলোমিটার উজানে ভারত গজলডোবা বাঁধটি নির্মাণ করে। উজানে বন্যা হলে এ বাঁধের ৫৪টি গেটের সব কটি খুলে দেয় ভারত। এতে বাংলাদেশের বিস্তির্ন অঞ্চলে বন্যা দেখা দেয়। আবার শুকনো মৌসুমে পানি আটকে তা দিয়ে ভারতের উত্তরাঞ্চলের জলপাইগুড়ি, দার্জিলিং, উত্তর দিনাজপুর, কুচবিহার ও মালদাহ জেলার ২ লাখ ২২ হাজার হেক্টর জমিতে ভারত সেচ কাজ করে।
গত বছর তিস্তার বন্যায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছিল বাংলাদেশের ১ হাজার ৮৬৩টি পরিবার। সাথে নষ্ট হয়েছিলো ফসল সহ অনেক সম্পদ। গ্রীষ্মে শুকিয়ে আর বন্যায় ভাসিয়ে দিয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক আইন লংঘন করে এভাবেই চলছে ভারতের পানি সন্ত্রাস।
