It’s that painful February 25 today. We have to ask an important question to the State about the BDR Carnage at Pilkhana. Those who carried out the massacre were trained personnel. They were not armed miscreants. How had we trained them that instead of acting like soldiers that day, they ended up killing the unarmed officers and molesting the women there? It was reported in the media how they tortured a 12-year-old child at Pilkhana that day.
No instinct of an ideal soldier rose in them and in incredibly ruthless style they murdered their colleagues and tortured the women and children. We have to ask this question now: what lessons on heroism are our soldiers learning?
Even during the pre-historic days the heroes used to leave their arms at the sight of women. But our present day heroes murder unarmed officer colleagues, gouge out their eyes before dumping them in the gutters, molest women and torture children. Such heinous acts of our soldiers perhaps stemmed from a perverted national culture. This culture does not stop anyone from killing innocent people in petrol bomb attacks and makes people quietly ecstatic when they find political workers, protesting against so-called crossfire, get killed. In elimination of others it sees the triumph of one’s own ideology.
We have to revisit the education system of our soldiers. We also have to raise this question why our soldiers behave so ruthlessly with our citizens. We have to dig out the root of this bestiality in our soldiers.
I do not want our tax to be used in raising such devilish, immoral and uncultured killing machines. I want our forces to be moral and ethical in their acts. They should uphold the prestige of the nation during war as well as peaceful time. They will never turn aggressive against or hit anyone unless they are attacked. They may cry after being hit; but they would not make others in tears. We will be able to hide the deep scars left by the brutality on February 25 to some extent if we can raise such forces our country.

আজ বেদনার ২৫ ফেব্রুয়ারি।
বি ডি আরের সেই নির্মম হত্যাকাণ্ড নিয়ে আমাদের একটা জরুরি প্রশ্ন রাষ্ট্রকে করতে হবে। এরা তো প্রশিক্ষিত, অস্ত্রধারী দুর্বৃত্ত নয়। কোন শিক্ষায় আমরা তাদের প্রশিক্ষিত করলাম যা তাকে নিরস্ত্র অফিসারদের হত্যায় বাধা দিলো না, নারীকে লাঞ্ছনা করা থেকে নিরস্ত করতে পারলো না? কেন তাদের ভিতরে সৈনিক সত্তা জাগ্রত হোল না, যা নিরস্ত্র মানুষ (যে কিনা তারই সহযোদ্ধা), শিশু-মহিলার বিরুদ্ধে অস্ত্রধারণ করতে নৈতিক বাধা তৈরি করলো না? আমরা জানি কিভাবে পিলখানাতে সেদিন তারা বারো বছরের শিশুর উপর জুলুম করে তাকে হত্যা করেছিলো। আমরা কোন “বীর ধর্ম” শিক্ষা দিয়ে এমন শ্রেণীর সেনা তৈরী করেছি আমাদের দেশে? এটা প্রশ্ন করার সময় এসেছে।
প্রাগৈতিহাসিক যুগেও তো এই ভূখণ্ডে যুদ্ধের ময়দানে নারীকে দেখে বীরেরা অস্ত্র ত্যাগ করেছে। আর আমাদের পুঙ্গবেরা নারী নিগ্রহ করে, নিরস্ত্র অফিসারকে হত্যা করে, চোখ উপড়ে পয়প্রণালীতে ছুঁড়ে দেয়। একজন নয় অসংখ্য। নিহতের মরদেহের প্রতি সামান্য সম্মান দেয়ার তাগিদ অনুভব করেনা।
এই মনস্তত্ত্বের শিকড় অনেক গভীরে। সম্ভবত এটা আমাদের বিকৃত জাতীয় সংস্কৃতির প্রকাশ। এই সংস্কৃতি নিরীহ মানুষকে পেট্রোল বোমায় পুড়িয়ে মারতে নৈতিক বাধা দেয় না, ক্রসফায়ারে বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক কর্মী নিহত হলে উল্লাস চেপে রেখে তৃপ্তি পায়, পরস্পরকে নিশ্চিহ্ন করে দেয়ার মধ্যেই নিজের আদর্শের বিজয় দেখে। পাশাপাশি রিভিজিট করা দরকার আমাদের সেনা শিক্ষার।
আমাদের প্রশ্ন করা দরকার, কেন আমাদের সকল অস্ত্রধারী বাহিনী নির্মম আচরণ করে দেশের নাগরিকদের সাথেও। এই নির্মমতার উৎস কোথায়?
আমি চাইনা, আমাদের ট্যাক্সের পয়সায় এমন দানবসদৃশ হৃদয়হীন, নীতিহীন, অশিক্ষিত কিলিং মেশিন তৈরি হোক। আমি চাই এমন জনগণের বাহিনী, যে আগ্রাসী নয়, যে যুদ্ধ আর শান্তিতে দেশবাসীর মর্যাদা রক্ষা করবে, যে আক্রান্ত না হলে কখনো প্রত্যাঘাত করবেনা। আঘাত পেয়ে প্রয়োজনে নিজে কাঁদবে, কিন্তু অন্যকে কাঁদাবে না। তাহলেই ২৫ শে ফেব্রুয়ারির নির্মমতার লজ্জা কিছুটা হলেও আমরা ঢাকতে পারবো।
