The state is a political institution and its main purpose or duty is to protect the political rights and freedom of the citizens and the sovereignty of the nation. Other duties of the state are in fact secondary ones. We build the state mostly to perform its main duties. In that sense, the so-called “developments” are its secondary duties. However, it’s another story if the stories of development are actually true.
If the state cannot perform its main duty its existence is meaningless. Quite surprisingly, it’s true that spread of education, development of health care facilities, communication and business are among the state’s secondary duties. It should not perform these secondary duties without performing its main duties. This is nothing but sedition when you rob away or curtail people’s rights in the name of development.
This political institution of the state does not bother to perform its main duty, but keeps on flaunting bogus stories of development just to retain power. Although those useless people pose as national leaders, they do not deserve to work even as small town municipality councilors.

রাষ্ট্র একটা রাজনৈতিক প্রতিষ্ঠান যে প্রতিষ্ঠানের অপরিহার্য বা মুখ্য উদ্দেশ্য ও কাজ হল নাগরিক রাজনৈতিক অধিকার, স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্ব রক্ষা করা। বাকী সব কাজ রাষ্ট্রের গৌণ। আমরা রাষ্ট্রের যে মুখ্য কাজ তা সম্পাদনের জন্যই রাষ্ট্র গঠন করি। সেই অর্থে তথাকথিত “উন্নয়ন” রাষ্ট্রের জন্য একটা গৌণ কাজ। আদতেই উন্নয়ন বলে কিছু হয়েছে কিনা সেটা অন্য আরেক আলাপ।
রাষ্ট্র যদি তার মুখ্য কাজ না করে বা অপারগ হয়, তাহলে সে রাষ্ট্র অপ্রয়োজনীয়, খামোখা। অবাক হলেও সত্য, শিক্ষা বিস্তার, স্বাস্থ্যের উন্নয়ন, যোগাযোগ বা বানিজ্যের উন্নতি রাষ্ট্রের গৌণ কাজ। মুখ্য কাজ না করে এই গৌণ কাজ করা রাষ্ট্রের জন্য অভিপ্রেত নয়। উন্নয়নের নাম করে জনগণের রাজনৈতিক অধিকার খর্ব করাটা তাই সরাসরি রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহিতা।
রাষ্ট্র নামের রাজনৈতিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের অপরিহার্য ও মুখ্য কাজকে ধ্বংস করে “উন্নয়ন” নামের রাষ্ট্রের গৌণ কাজের বায়বীয় প্রতিশ্রুতি তাদের ক্ষমতা ধরে রাখার শ্লোগান। এই অখাদ্য রাজনীতিবিদদের রাষ্ট্রনায়ক হওয়ার খায়েসের বদলে ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ বা পৌরসভার চেয়ারম্যান হওয়া উচিত ছিলো।
