Indian authorities have launched a security crackdown on some intellectuals and human rights activists in the country. They incited people during violence between dalits and the upper caste groups at Koregaon-Bhima village near Pune in January, are involved in Maoist activities and conspired to kill PM Modi, it has been alleged.

The crackdown by the government has ignited an outrage across the civil society in India. The intellectual and academic community has termed the crackdown as a “virtual declaration of emergency”.

People with other opinions too are often targeted in our Bangladesh in the same way following accusation that they are inciting people in political violence.

People in our Bangladesh should stand up in support of India’s rights activists and intellectuals who have become victims of a continuous process of oppression. Protests against such oppression should take place across the world.

ভারতে বুদ্ধিজীবী ও মানবাধিকারকর্মীদের ওপর ব্যাপক ধরপাকড় শুরু করেছে পুলিশ। তাঁদের বিরুদ্ধে মাওবাদী ষড়যন্ত্রে সংশ্লিষ্টতার অভিযোগ আনা হয়েছে। এ ঘটনায় বিক্ষোভে ফেটে পড়েছেন ভারতের বুদ্ধিজীবী ও শিক্ষাবিদেরা। তাঁরা বলছেন, এটি একধরনের ‘জরুরি অবস্থা’। গত জানুয়ারিতে ভীমা কোরেগাঁওয়ে দলিত সম্প্রদায় ও মারাঠার উচ্চবর্ণের মানুষের মধ্যকার সংঘর্ষের সূত্র টেনে অভিযোগ, এসবে উসকানি দিয়েছেন গ্রেপ্তার হওয়া ব্যক্তিরা।

এমনকি তাদের কারো বিরুদ্ধে মোদিকে হত্যার ষড়যন্ত্রের অভিযোগও আনা হয়েছে।
