At the fifth convocation ceremony of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh said: “In the past pickpockets used to be beaten up by the public. Now, those who adulterate food deserve identical punishment.”
Nowhere the head of a civilised nation can make such senseless comment. Abdul Hamid is the President today. But, we all know that he was a professional lawyer. His statement supporting mob justice makes it clear that the institution of the Bangladesh state has been totally destroyed during this fascist rule by Awami League. The head of a state is encouraging or instigating people to pounce on some others and beat them en masse. You cannot call it anything but a mafia state. Had Mr Hamid been the President of any civilised country he would have faced impeachment for this statement.
In Awami League-ruled Bangladesh justice has been replaced by extrajudicial killing, the fair process of election has been replaced by the fraudulent one and fascism has been established in the country in the name of the spirit of the Liberation War. Righteousness has no place in the country ruled by vengeance. The political system has been highjacked by hooliganism and the nation is being looted in the name of development.
If the situation continues this way, soon this dysfunctional state called Bangladesh will turn into a troubling headache for the world.

বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রপতি আবদুল হামিদ রাজশাহী প্রকৌশল ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়-রুয়েটের পঞ্চম সমাবর্তনে যোগ দিয়ে সমাবর্তন বক্তব্যে বলেছেন, আগে শুধু পকেট মারলেই গণপিটুনি দেয়া হতো, এখন খাদ্যে ভেজালকারীদেরও গণপিটুনি দিতে হবে।
পৃথিবীর কোন সভ্য দেশে কোন রাষ্ট্রীয় প্রধান এই বক্তব্য দিতে পারেন না। আবদুল হামিদ শুধু রাষ্টপতিই নয় তিনি একজন পেশাদার আইনজীবিও ছিলেন। তার এই বক্তব্যে বিশ্ববাসী বুঝতে পারবে আওয়ামী ফ্যাসিস্ট শাসনে কীভাবে বাংলাদেশে রাষ্ট্র নামের প্রতিষ্ঠানটাই ধ্বংস হয়ে গেছে। যে দেশের রাষ্ট্রপতি গণপিটুনি দিতে আহ্বান জানায় সেইটা কোন রাষ্ট্র নয়, নেহাতই একটা মাফিয়া রাজ্য। কোন সভ্য দেশ হলে এই রাষ্ট্রপতিকে অভিশংসনের মুখোমুখি পড়তে হতো।
এইভাবেই আওয়ামী লীগ বাংলাদেশে বিচারের বদলে বিচার বহির্ভুত হত্যাকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে, নির্বাচনের বদলে প্রতারণার নৈশ ভোটকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনার নামে ফ্যাসিবাদ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে, ন্যায়ের নামে প্রতিহিংসা প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে, উন্নয়নের নামে লুটপাট প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে, রাজনীতির বদলে গুণ্ডামোকে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে।
এই অবস্থা দীর্ঘায়িত হলে বাংলাদেশ নামের এই অকার্যকর রাষ্ট্র সারা দুনিয়ার জন্য মাথা ব্যথা হয়ে উঠবে।
