At least 20 leaders and workers of Oikya Front, including its candidate Rumana Mahmud, have been injured after police caned and fired upon them in Sirajganj today. Ms Mahmud was hit by splinters on her back, leg and hand.
Marina, joint general secretary of women’s wing of BNP of Sirajganj, lost her both eyes after being hit by rubber bullets.
The ruling party threatened in advance that they would attack the Oikya Front candidates and their rallies. And, they are doing exactly that across the country. Now the police too have launched violent attacks on the opposition candidates. Such attacks against the opposition have been continuing for days now. Yet, the Election Commission is not taking cognizance of such attacks. Even the ruling party goons attacked the top Oikya Front leader Kamal Hossain yesterday. Around 12 Oikya Front leaders and workers were injured in this attack on his rally.

বৃহস্পতিবার সিরাজগঞ্জ শহরে পুলিশের গুলি ও লাঠিচার্জে জেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি ও সিরাজগঞ্জ-২ আসনে ঐক্যফ্রন্টের প্রার্থী রুমানা মাহমুদসহ অন্তত ২০ জন নেতাকর্মী আহত হয়েছেন। এসময় রুমানা মাহমুদের পিঠে, পায়ে ও হাতে গুলির স্প্লিন্টার লেগেছে। এছাড়া গুলিতে শহর মহিলা দলের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক মেরিনার দুচোখ নষ্ট হয়ে গেছে।
সারা দেশেই ঐক্য ফ্রন্টের প্রার্থীদের উপরে হামলা করার আগাম আগাম ঘোষনা সরকারী দল দিয়েছিলো । এবং তারা সারা দেশেই এখন সেটা করছে। এখন পুলিশও বিরোধী দলের নেতা কর্মীদের উপরে সেই একই নির্মম সহিংস আক্রমন শুরু করেছে। এইরকম আক্রমন গত কয়েকদিন ধরেই ধারাবাহিকভাবে চলছে। নির্বাচন কমিশন এই ধারাবাহিক হামলার বিরুদ্ধে কোন ব্যবস্থা নেয়নি। এমনকি ঐক্য ফ্রন্টের শীর্ষ নেতা ডঃ কামাল হোসেনের উপরেও কাল হামলা হয়েছে, এতে ঐক্য ফ্রন্টের বারোজন নেতা কর্মী আহত হয়েছে।
