In recent history, we do not know of any other political party being persecuted and targeted in violence this way anywhere in the world. Have you ever heard of as many as 1,500 political leaders and activists losing their lives in any political struggle anywhere in the world? In the anti-Ershad movement, around 100 people were martyred. Under the current dictatorship, a stunningly huge number of lives have been lost and maimed in Bangladesh.
The massive self-sacrifice of the people in the past ten years will not go in vain. The country will be free from fascism, for centuries this sacrifice will be remembered by people who will feel encouraged to read this part of the country’s history.

পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে কোন একক রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতাকর্মীরা এতো ব্যাপক হারে নিপীড়িত হয়নি। কোন রাজনৈতিক সংগ্রামে, রাজপথের আন্দোলনে দেড় হাজার নেতা কর্মীর কি প্রান দেয়ার রেকর্ড আছে? এরশাদ বিরোধী আন্দোলনে কতজন শহীদ হয়েছিলো? মেরেকেটে একশো জনও নয়।
বাংলাদেশে চলমান এই স্বৈরশাসনের অবসানে কী বিপুল রক্তক্ষয় হয়েছে, প্রাণনাশ হয়েছে সেটা ভাবলে বিস্মিত হতে হয়।এই দশ বছরের আত্মত্যাগ বৃথা যেতে পারেনা। ফ্যাসিবাদ মুক্ত স্বদেশে নিশ্চয়ই মুক্ত নাগরিকেরা এই আত্মত্যাগকে যুগ যুগ মনে রাখবে আর এই ইতিহাস পাঠ করে অনুপ্রাণিত হবে।
