Oikyafront sought to hold a political rally in Sylhet on October 23, but the police denied permission to the alliance to hold the rally. Later, the alliance said they would interact with their supporters and local leaders in an indoor meeting in Sylhet on October 23. But, Oikyafront has not been allowed even to hold any indoor meeting in Sylhet. Oikyafront leaders believe, police denied the permission following a government order.

According to the Constitution of Bangladesh (Para 37): “Freedom of assembly. Every citizen shall have the right to assemble and to participate in public meetings and processions peacefully and without arms, subject to any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the interests of public order health.” So, it’s evident that denial of permission to hold the rally was an unconstitutional action by the authorities.

The denial of the permission of the rally is a sign that the ruling party is getting scared of the Oikyafront. Now, Oikyafront has announced that it would hold a rally on Oct 24, even if the permission from the police does not come through.

Oikyafront deserves to be congratulated for this bold decision. May the October 24 Oikyafront rally be successful in all terms.

সিলেটে আগামী ২৩ তারিখ ঐক্যফ্রন্ট সমাবেশ করতে চেয়েছিলো, কিন্তু তাদের অনুমতি দেয়া হয়নি। পরে ঘরোয়া সমাবেশ করতে চাওয়া হয়েছিলো, সেই অনুমতিও দেয়া হয়নি। পুলিশের তরফ থেকে কোন কারণ দর্শানো হয়নি। ঐক্য ফ্রন্ট মনে করছে সরকারি নির্দেশেই পুলিশ অনুমতি দিতে অস্বীকার করেছে।
