When the students in Dhaka launched a movement some months ago demanding safe roads, helmet-clad leaders and activists of Chhatra League pounced on them. Many protesting students badly injured. Police forces of the fascist Awami League-led government did not save the students from the attack, but shielded the attackers instead. Internationally acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam shared photos of attacks on Facebook and was later arrested and tortured in jail. After spending over 100 days in jail he was released last week.
Strangely, the government did not bother to arrest any of the Chhatra League leaders and activists who violently attacked the protesting students and were even identified. A large section of the media in Bangladesh and some so-called intellectuals identify this misrule by the Awami League-led government as the spirit of the liberation war. They claim this government will free the country from communalism and militancy. Is the international community aware of how this government is running a repressive rule allowing free hands to the miscreants and goons.
They are not allowing the citizens cast their votes freely. They are not allowing the opposition to hold any legitimate protest rally. They are also not allowing the citizens change the government through a free and fair election. Will the citizens have to take such misrule and repression lying down helplessly? Will the international community keep allowing such repression in Bangladesh leaving the people in limbo?

নিরাপদ সড়কের আন্দোলনের সময় ছাত্রলীগের কেন্দ্রীয় সাধারণ সম্পাদকের নেতৃত্বে হেলমেট পরে ছাত্রলীগের নেতা কর্মিরা আন্দোলনকারী সাধারন ছাত্রছাত্রী ও সাংবাদিকদের উপরে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে। অসংখ্য ছাত্র ছাত্রী রক্তাক্ত ও আহত হয়। ফ্যাসিস্ট আওয়ামী সরকারের পুলিস বাহিনী আক্রান্তদের না বাঁচিয়ে আক্রমণকারীদের নিরাপত্তা দেয়। এই আক্রমণের ছবি ফেইসবুকে শেয়ার করায় বরেণ্য ফটোগ্রাফার শহীদুল আলমকে গ্রেপ্তার করে নির্যাতন করা হয়। তিনি শতাধিক দিন জেলে কাটায়ে জামিনে সম্প্রতি মুক্তি পান।
অথচ এই হামলাকারীদের সকলেই শনাক্ত হলেও কেউই গ্রেপ্তার হয়নি। এই নিপীড়নমূলক শাসনকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনা বাস্তবায়ন বলে রক্ষা করার চেষ্টা করে বাংলাদেশের মিডিয়া এবং তাদের ভাড়াটে সুশীল বুদ্ধিজীবিরা। তারা বলতে চায় এই সরকার সাম্প্রদায়িকতা ও জঙ্গীবাদ মুক্ত করবে বাংলাদেশ। কিন্তু আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায় কি দেখছে এরা কী ভয়ানক নিপীড়নমুলক দুর্বৃত্ত আর গুণ্ডাদের শাসন চালু করেছে বাংলাদেশে?
এরা দেশের মানুষকে ভোট দিতে দেয়না। বিরোধী দলকে রাস্তায় প্রতিবাদ করতে দেয় না। দেশের মানুষ যে ভোট দিয়ে শাসক বদলাবে সেটাও অসম্ভব করে তুলেছে এই সরকার।
সরকারী দলের গুণ্ডাতন্ত্র কি বাংলাদেশের জনগণকে এভাবেই মেনে নিতে হবে? আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায় কি বাংলাদেশের মানুষকে এইরকম অসহায়্ভাবেই অনন্তকাল ধরে নিপীড়ন সহ্য করে থাকতে বলতে চায়?
