Some days ago, during a verdict on a remand-related appeal in the case of Shahidul Alam, judge Syed Mohammad Dastagir Hossain said to the photographer’s lawyer: “Your client is lucky that he did not become a victim of enforced disappearance.”
The judge’s view was that he considered a citizen lucky because he had not been disappeared by a security agency of the State. This is the reality you are facing in the country. You will be wrong if you believe you will remain safe by staying silent.
You are no more a citizen in this nation. You do not have the minimum rights of a citizen. We all are turning slaves of the wishes of the powerful, which has been their plan.
You should raise your voice against this oppression. Your action may not find space in the history. But, your successors will remember that you used your utmost might to stand against the oppression. It will make them stronger in their fight to stay alive with dignity.
আলোকচিত্রী শহীদুল আলমের রিমান্ড স্থগিত চেয়ে শুনানিতে বিচারপতি সৈয়দ মোহাম্মদ দস্তগীর হোসেন বলেন, ‘‘আরে রাখেন, ভাগ্য ভালো যে উনাকে গুম করেনি৷”
বিচারালয়ের বিচারপতি “গুম না হওয়াকে” একজন নাগরিকের সৌভাগ্য বলে মনে করেন। আপনি আজ এই বাস্তবতায় দাঁড়িয়ে যদি মনে করেন, আপনি মুখ বন্ধ রাখলেই ভালো থাকবেন, নিরাপদে থাকবেন, এটা ভুল।
এই রাষ্ট্রে আপনি আর নাগরিক নেই। আপনার ন্যুনতম নাগরিক অধিকার নেই। আপনি আমি সবাইকে আজকে শক্তিমানের ইচ্ছার দাস বানিয়ে রাখার চেস্টা প্রায় সফল হতে চলেছে।
আপনি অন্তত আপনার নাগরিক অধিকারের প্রশ্নটাকে সামনে রেখে কথা বলুন। ইতিহাসে আপনার নাম লেখা থাকুক আর না থাকুক, আপনার সন্তানেরা জানবে আপনি আপনার সামর্থ্যের সবটুকু দিয়ে অন্তত একটা প্রতিবাদ জারি রেখেছিলেন। এটুকুই আপনার সন্তানদের ভবিষ্যতের বাংলাদেশে মাথা উচু করে বাচার শক্তি দেবে।
