In the process of allocation of annual development funds to different regions the government is clearly resorting to a practice of discrimination. After the capital Dhaka and port city of Chittagong, the third highest allocation has gone to Gopalganj district, leaving behind 61 other districts of the country.
Since the fund is meant for use in development-related work, poorer and underdeveloped areas are supposed to receive larger amount of allocations. But, the government has allocated smaller amount of funds to the underdeveloped swampy areas, poverty-stricken coastal and other areas.
Sheikh Hasina-led government has allocated larger amount of fund to Gopalganj because from this constituency she contested the elections and the place is the birthplace of her father.
Residents of Gopalganj enjoy certain privileges in Bangladesh. They are the super citizens of the country. There are allegations that in government jobs, especially in the police force, priority is given to residents of Gopalganj. Policemen who are recruited from Gopalganj this way are privately called “Gopali Police” by the opposition BNP leaders, workers and supporters.
Sheikh Hasina has no right to allocate fund for her constituency and father’s birthplace as much as she wants. However, people have no right to question the PM on this issue. The government will make their life miserable by intimidating and slapping police cases against them, if people dare to raise any question.
They stuffed the ballot boxes at night, rigged the general elections massively and robbed the voting rights of the people. Now, they are squandering the taxpayers’ money and resources of the country in their selfish political interest.

বার্ষিক উন্নয়ন বরাদ্দ দেয়ার ক্ষেত্রে সরকার স্পষ্ট বৈষম্য করেছে। রাজধানী ঢাকা আর বন্দর নগরী চট্টগ্রামের পরেই দেশের বাকী ৬১ টি জেলাকে পিছনে ফেলে সবচেয়ে বেশী বরাদ্দ পেয়েছে গোপালগঞ্জ জেলা।
উন্নয়ন কর্মসূচির বরাদ্দ হওয়ার কথা এলাকার দারিদ্র্য ও প্রয়োজনের ভিত্তিতে। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের হাওর, উত্তরের দারিদ্র্যপীড়িত অঞ্চল ও উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলে বরাদ্দ হয়েছে অনেক কম।
সব জেলাকে ছাড়িয়ে গোপালগঞ্জে বেশী বরাদ্দ হওয়ার কারণ একটাই আর তা হচ্ছে এটা শেখ হাসিনার নির্বাচনী এলাকা তার ও তার বাবা শেখ মুজিবের জন্মস্থান।
এই গোপালগঞ্জের বাসিন্দারা বাংলাদেশে বিশেষ মর্যাদা পায়। তারা বাংলাদেশের সুপার নাগরিক। সরকারী চাকরিতে বিশেষ করে পুলিশে নিয়োগ দেয়ার ক্ষেত্রে গোপালগঞ্জের বাসিন্দাদেরকে বিশেষভাবে বিবেচনা করা হয় বলে অভিযোগ রয়েছে। বিরোধীদল বিএনপি ওই অঞ্চলের পুলিশ সদস্যদের আড়ালে ‘গোপালি পুলিশ’ বলে ডাকে।
জনগনের ট্যাক্সের টাকা নিজের ও বাবার জন্মস্থানে ও নির্বাচনি এলাকায় নির্বিচারে বরাদ্দ করার কোন অধিকার শেখ হাসিনার নেই। তবে জনগনের এই প্রশ্ন তোলার অধিকার নেই। মামলা দিয়ে হামলা করে, ভয় দেখিয়ে প্রশ্নকর্তার জীবনকে এই প্রহসনের নির্বাচন করে ক্ষমতা দখল করে রাখা সরকার দুর্বিষহ করে দেবে।
প্রহসনের রাতের ভোট করে এরা শুধু জনগনের ভোটাধিকারই হরণ করেনি, এরা জনগনের অর্থকে ও দেশের সম্পদকে নিজেদের সম্পত্তি মনে করে যথেচ্ছ করছে।
