Former Awami League leader and home minister Sohel Taj, who happens to be the son of respected politician and liberation war time Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, has leveled a serious charge against the top security and intelligence agencies of the country.
In a joint operation, National Security Intelligence (NSI), Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and RAB kidnapped his sister’s son Sourav, he said. From what Sourav’s family reported it is clear that he was in love with a girl from a rich family for which he was abducted by the agencies and has been a victim of forced disappearance.
In a press conference, Sohel Taj said: “This should not be anyone’s fate in a country where justice prevails. It has happened to my nephew today. Tomorrow it may happen to your brother. And, another day your son may become a victim this way.”
Is Sohel Taj not aware of the fact that at least 500 people have been abducted during the regime of his party? Many of our brothers, sons and other relatives remain untraced after being abducted in the same style. Many of them may not return at all. In a recent report human rights organisation FIDH expressed concerns how the state agencies are involved in cases of enforced disappearances in Bangladesh. The family of Sohel Taj too has been a victim in a case of enforced disappearance now.
Could Sohel Taj carry out his official responsibilities during this tainted regime of his party when the culture of enforced disappearance continued unabated? Perhaps his nephew would have not gone missing this way now if he raised his voice against such disappearances on time.
I hope now Sohel Taj will be able to understand why we have long been campaigning in support of building a beautiful and safe Bangladesh.

বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধকালীন প্রধানমন্ত্রী বরেণ্য রাজনীতিবিদ তাজউদ্দিন আহমেদের ছেলে সোহেল তাজ, যিনি এই আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রীও ছিলেন, দেশের সর্বোচ্চ পর্যায়ের সিকিউরিটি ও ইণ্টেলিজেন্স বিভাগের বিরুদ্ধে এক গুরুতর অভিযোগ এনেছেন।
তিনি বলেছেন এন এস আই, ৱ্যাব ও ডি জি এফ আইয়ের যৌথ অপারেশনে তার বোনের ছেলে সৌরভকে গুম করা হয়েছে। সৌরভের পরিবারের বর্ণনায় বুঝা যায় নেহাতই এক বিত্তশালী পরিবারের মেয়ের সাথে প্রেমের সম্পর্কের জের ধরে পুলিশ সহ তিন রাষ্ট্রীয় বাহিনী এই গুমের ঘটনা ঘটিয়েছে। সংবাদ সন্মেলনে সোহেল তাজ বলেন, “ন্যায় ও সুবিচারের রাষ্ট্রে কোনো নাগরিকেরই এমন পরিণতি কাম্য নয়। আজ আমার ভাগ্নে, কাল হয়তো আপনার ভাই, আরেকদিন আপনার সন্তান হতে পারে।”
সোহেল তাজ হয়তো জানেন না যে তার দলের শাসনকালে কমপক্ষে প্রায় পাঁচশো মানুষকে গুম করা হয়েছে। আমাদের অনেকেরই ভাই, সন্তান এখনো নিখোঁজ। তারা হয়তো আর কখনো ফিরে আসবে না। গুম নিয়ে এফ আই ডি এইচের সাম্প্রতিক রিপোর্টেও গুমের সাথে উল্লেখিত বাহিনীগুলোর সংশ্লিষ্টতা পাওয়া গেছে। এখন সোহেল তাজের নিজের পরিবারও এইরকম এক গুমের শিকার হল।
সোহেল তাজ কি তাঁর দলের অপশাসনের সময়ে অব্যাহত গুমের সময়ে তাঁর দায়িত্ব পালন করতে পেরেছিলেন? যদি তিনি আরো আগেই অন্যদের গুমের বিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চার হতেন, তাহলে আজ হয়তো তাঁর বোনের পরিবারকে এই দিনটি দেখতে হতো না।
একটা সুন্দর ও নিরাপদ বাংলাদেশ গড়ার গুরুত্ব আশা করি সোহেল তাজ এখন আরো ভালোভাবে অনুধাবন করতে সক্ষম হবেন।
