One who is affiliated to a political party cannot be appointed as an election official- this is the rule.
According to this report in leading Bengali language newspaper Prathom Alo, in Boalmari Upazilla (sub-district) there are at least 5 officials of the upcoming general election who also happen to be political activists.
From Chittagong University 10 employees have been chosen as election officials who are directly related to ruling Awami League party activities. At least 29 employees of
Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, who are known for their affiliation to the ruling party, are working as election officials this time. Some of them are well-known former leaders of Chhatra League or the student wing of Awami League.
Tens of thousands of pro-Awami League people have been chosen as the election officials across the country. This general election is going to be held with the sole aim by Awami League to retain the power. This election will not reflect what most people of the country truly want. This is going to be a sham election. Does the international community have nothing to do in this situation as a clearly unpopular government is resorting to dishonest means to take to power?

সরাসরি রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট কোনো ব্যক্তিকে ভোট গ্রহণ কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেওয়ার আইনি বাধা থাকলেও শুধু বোয়ালমারী উপজেলায় এমন পাঁচ ব্যক্তিকে পাওয়া গেছে, যাঁরা রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট হয়েও নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তা হয়েছেন।
এ ছাড়া চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের মধ্যে থেকে নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তা নিয়োগ পেয়েছেন এমন অন্তত ১০ জনের নাম পাওয়া গেছে, যাঁরা সরাসরি আওয়ামী লীগের দলীয় কর্মকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে জড়িত। শাহজালাল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কম্পক্ষে ২৯ জন কর্মচারী যারা সরকারি দলের সাথে সরাসরি যুক্ত তারা নির্বাচনী দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন। এদের অনেকেই সরকারি দলের ছাত্র সংগঠন ছাত্রলীগের অতি পরিচিত নেতা ছিলেন।
অগনিত আওয়ামী লীগ সমর্থককে সারা দেশে নির্বাচনী কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেয়া হয়েছে। এই নির্বাচনের সকল ব্যবস্থা এমনভাবেই করার চেস্টা করা হয়েছে যেন আওয়ামী লীগের ক্ষমতায় থাকা নিশ্চিত করা যায়। যেন এই নির্বাচন জনগনের অভিপ্রায়ের সঠিক প্রতিফলন না থাকে। এই নির্বাচন যেন একটি প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ নির্বাচন হয় তার সকল ব্যবস্থা পাকা করা হয়েছে। খুব স্পষ্টভাবে একটি অজনপ্রিয় সরকার যখন সবকিছু করে একটি প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমে টিকে থাকার চেষ্টা করছে তখন আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়ের কি কিছুই করার নাই?
