Considering that local people would be benefited from it, Abdul Khalek, mayor of Khulna City Corporation, sent a proposal to the Indian high commissioner seeking introduction of an ambulance service between Khulna and Kolkata. Indian high commissioner has shown keen interest in the issue and is in effort to start the service soon.
The city mayor of an independent nation wants help to ensure better medical service for his fellow citizens. But, for this he is seeking support from another country through its high commissioner. Can a city mayor seek assistance from a foreign country this way? A simple answer to this question is “No”. The mayor sought the help from India openly. And, the Indian authorities too announced that it would respond to the proposal positively.
During the regime of Awami League several Awami ministers publicly said that the “relationship between Bangladesh and India is like that between a husband and wife”.
This unpopular government, which was formed following farcical general elections and remains in power with direct support from India,is looming as a big threat to the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Holding on to power they are not just robbing the people of their citizenship, humanitarian and political rights, but are also erasing our prideful identity of citizens of an independent nation. Is this not true?

এই খবরটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্ববহ। অথচ এটা নিয়ে কাউকেই কথা বলতে দেখলাম না।
খুলনার মানুষের চিকিৎসার কথা চিন্তা করে খুলনা সিটি করপোরেশনের মেয়র তালুকদার আবদুল খালেক ভারতীয় হাইকমিশনারের কাছে খুলনা-কোলকাতা অ্যাম্বুলেন্স সার্ভিস চালু করার প্রস্তাব দেন। ভারতীয় হাইকমিশনার ব্যাপারটি গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে নিয়ে সার্ভিসটি চালু করার উদ্যোগ নিচ্ছেন, খবর এসেছে।
একটা স্বাধীন দেশের সিটি মেয়র সেই দেশের নাগরিকের চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থা নিশ্চিত করার জন্য একটি বিদেশী দেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতের সহায়তা চাইছেন। দেশের আইনে একজন সিটি মেয়র এভাবে বিদেশী রাষ্ট্রের কাছে এই সাহায্য চাইতে পারেন কি? সহজ উত্তর হচ্ছে, পারেন না। কিন্তু তারপরেও চেয়েছেন। এটা কোন গোপন বিষয় নয় বরং ঢাকঢোল পিটিয়েই সাহায্য চাওয়া হয়েছে। আর ওদিক থেকে ঢাকঢোল পিটিয়ে তা মঞ্জুর করাও হয়েছে।
আওয়ামী শাসনামলে আওয়ামী মন্ত্রীরা বাংলাদেশ ভারতের সম্পর্ক সম্পর্কে প্রকাশ্যেই বলেছেন, “ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের সম্পর্ক স্বামী ও স্ত্রীর মতো।”
প্রহসনের নির্বাচনের মধ্যে দিয়ে ক্ষমতা আঁকড়ে থাকা ও ভারতের প্রত্যক্ষ সমর্থনে টিকে থাকা এই অজনপ্রিয় সরকার বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা আর সার্বভৌমত্বের জন্য মুর্তিমান বিপদ হিসেবে হাজির হয়েছে।
এরা ক্ষমতায় থেকে বাংলাদেশের মানুষের শুধু নাগরিক, মানবিক আর রাজনৈতিক অধিকারই হরণ করছে না, একটি স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্রের নাগরিক হিসেবে আমাদের গর্বিত পরিচয়কেও মুছে দিচ্ছে। তাই নয় কি?
