On 27th February, our dear brother human rights activist Adilur Rahman Khan has won the Franco-German Human Rights Award 2017. In an in-house function at Dhaka’s French-German embassy building the award was handed over to Mr Khan.
This is a very hard time for human rights activism in Bangladesh. We see this award to Mr Khan as a silver lining in this time of turbulence in the country. We are proud of him.
The German ambassador said in the programme that his government sent a note of protest to Bangladesh against the Digital Security Act. I spoke to the ambassador at the end of the programme. He said, next week the EU representatives would meet Bangladesh’s law minister over this issue.
It became clear that on the issue of the Digital Security Act the international communities have already been ratcheting up pressure on Bangladesh. However, we the citizens of Bangladesh, are yet to raise our voices against this Act.
২৭ শে ফেব্রুয়ারি, আমাদের প্রিয় আদিলুর রহমান শুভ্র ভাই ফ্রাংকো জার্মান হিউম্যান রাইটস এওয়ার্ড ২০১৭ পেলেন। ঢাকায় ফ্রেঞ্চ-জার্মান এম্ব্যাসি বিল্ডিং এ একটা ঘরোয়া অনুষ্ঠান শেষে শুভ্র ভাইকে পুরস্কার হাতে তুলে দেয়া হয়।
বাংলাদেশে মানবাধিকার নিয়ে এই কঠিন ও জটিল সময়ে শুভ্র ভাইয়ের কাজ ঘোর অন্ধকারে আলোর একটা রুপালী রেখা হয়ে আছে। তিনি আমাদের গর্ব।
অনুষ্ঠানে জার্মান এম্ব্যাসাডার বললেন, ডিজিট্যাল নিরাপত্তা আইন নিয়ে জার্মান সরকারের আপত্তির কথা বাংলাদেশকে ইতিমধ্যেই জানানো হয়েছে। অনুষ্ঠানশেষে আবারো কথা বললাম উনার সাথে। তিনি বললেন শুধু এই ইস্যু নিয়ে ইউরোপীয় দুতেরা সামনের সপ্তাহে আইনমন্ত্রীর সাথে দেখা করবেন।
বুঝতে পারলাম প্রস্তাবিত ডিজিটাল নিরাপত্তা আইন নিয়ে সরকারের উপরে আন্তর্জাতিক চাপ অব্যাহত আছে। শুধু আমরাই চুপচাপ আছি।
