Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla has said, next election in Bangladesh will be free, fair and participatory one.
Shringla said: “We all believe in democracy. We also believe in free and fair elections. I am sure, in Bangladesh the general elections will take place the way as we see in other democracies.”
When Shringla was asked by some Bangladeshi journalists how the elections in Bangladesh would fare, he said: “Democracy means participation by all. I am sure all will participate in the next elections. Any party willing to be part of the democratic process in the country should not stay away from the elections. Those who will stay from the elections will not be part of the democratic process.”
The election in Bangladesh is a sovereign issue of the country. A foreign diplomat should not issue any comment on the domestic political matter like elections in Bangladesh. India has long been intruding into Bangladesh’s domestic political affairs in a disgusting style. Before the last general elections, Sujatha Singh, who was India’s foreign secretary then, visited Bangladesh and pressed Ershad to take part in the elections. She said to Ershad that if his party stayed away Jamaat would become victorious in the elections.
India has been killing Bangladeshis on the border, has surrounded Bangladesh with barbed fencing, built dams upstream of rivers which flow into Bangladesh and helped in rise of fascism in our country. Bangladeshis are angry, feel disgusted and humiliated the way Bangladesh has become a victim of bullying by India. In the past the situation has turned worse with more than 90% Bangladeshis turning against India.
ভারতীয় হাইকমিশনার বলেন, ‘আমরা সবাই গণতন্ত্রে বিশ্বাসী। একইসঙ্গে অবাধ ও সুষ্ঠু নির্বাচনে বিশ্বাস করি। আমি নিশ্চিত, অন্য গণতন্ত্রের মতো এখানেও হবে।” আগামী নির্বাচন কেমন হতে পারে জানতে চাইলে তিনি বলেন, “গণতন্ত্র মানে অংশগ্রহণ। আমি নিশ্চিত আগামী সাধারণ নির্বাচন অংশগ্রহণমূলক হবে। যদি কেউ গণতান্ত্রিক প্রক্রিয়ায় থাকতে চায় তাকে অবশ্যই নির্বাচনে অংশগ্রহণ করতে হবে। কেউ অংশ না নিলে সে নির্বাচনের প্রক্রিয়ায় থাকবে না।”
বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচন বাংলাদেশের জনগনের সার্বভৌম ইচ্ছায় পরিচালিত হবে। একজন বিদেশী রাস্ট্রদুতের জন্য বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচনের মত আভ্যন্তরীণ রাজনৈতিক বিষয়ে মত দেয়া কুটনৈতিক শিষ্টাচারের পরিপন্থি। ভারত এভাবেই বাংলাদেশের আভ্যন্তরীণ রাজনিতিতে ন্যক্কারজনক হস্তক্ষেপ করে চলছে। বিগত জাতীয় নির্বাচনের আগে ভারতের পররাষ্ট্র সচিব সুজাতা জাতিয় পার্টির প্রধান বাংলাদেশে এসে এরশাদকে এই বলে নির্বাচনে অংশ নেয়ার জন্য চাপ দেয় যে, “নির্বাচনে অংশ না নিলে জামাত ক্ষমতায় আসবে।”
বাংলাদেশের আপামর মানুষ ভারতের সীমান্ত হত্যা, কাটাতারে বাংলাদেশকে ঘিরে রাখা, নদীর উজানে বাধ দেয়া, বাংলাদেশে ফ্যাসিস্ট রেজিমের উত্থানে সহায়তা দেয়া সহ এই ধরনের ধারাবাহিক খবরদারী মুলক আচরনে ক্ষুব্ধ বিরক্ত এবং অপমানিত। বিগত একদশকেই বাংলাদেশের ৯০% মানুষ ভারতের বাংলাদেশ নীতির কারণে তীব্রভাবে ভারতবিরোধী হয়ে উঠেছে।
