Police arrested 43 men from Narayanganj, suspecting them to be Chhatrashibir members. The students were returning from an educational trip to Narayanganj’s Folk and Handicraft Museum. #Chhatrashibir is not a banned organisation. So, police cannot arrest a person just because he is a member of this organisation.
Here’s a video in which we can clearly view how a group of policemen are caning the students as they are being pushed into a van. A policeman is using his full force to beat the students. We can also hear how someone is abusing the students in vulgar style shouting that their mothers should be fucked. The students are being caned and abused while they are quietly following the command of the police and getting inside the van with their hands thrown upwards.
Do police have the rights to beat and abuse surrendering unarmed people in any situation?
We routinely hear how #police in #Bangladesh indulge in human rights violations. This video presents a slice of such heinous police actions. I wonder when and how we will see these policemen, who are openly violating human rights, brought to justice?
ছাত্রশিবির সন্দেহে আজ পুলিশ ৪৩ জনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে নারায়ণগঞ্জ থেকে। সেই ছাত্ররা নারায়ণগঞ্জের সোনারগাঁও লোক ও কারুশিল্প জাদুঘরে শিক্ষা সফর থেকে ফিরছিলো। ছাত্রশিবির কোন নিষিদ্ধ সংগঠন নয়। তাই পুলিশ কাউকে শুধুমাত্র সেই সংগঠনের সদস্য হওয়ার অভিযোগে গ্রেপ্তার করতে পারেনা।
এখানে একটা ভিডিও ফুটেজে দেখা যাচ্ছে গ্রেপ্তারকৃত তরুনেরা দুই হাত তুলে একটা বাসা থেকে বেরুচ্ছে তাদের ঘিরে আছে উদ্যত অস্ত্র হাতে সাদা পোশাকে ও ইউনিফর্ম পরিহিত একদল পুলিশ। একজন পুলিশের হাতে একটা দীর্ঘ লাঠি সেই লাঠি দিয়ে সর্বশক্তি দিয়ে প্রত্যেকের পিছনে বাড়ি দেয়া হচ্ছে। কেউ একজন পিছন থেকে গ্রেপ্তারকৃতদের মাকে ধর্ষণ করার ইচ্ছা পোষণ করে গালি দিচ্ছে। ছাত্ররা শান্তভাবেই কোন প্রতিরোধ ছাড়াই মাথার উপরে হাত তুলে পুলিশের নির্দেশ অনুসারে ভ্যানের ভিতরে গিয়ে বসছিলো।
পুলিশ কি কোন অবস্থাতেই নিরস্ত্র এবং আত্মসমর্পণকারীদের এভাবে পেটাতে পারে, বা গালি দিতে পারে?
বাংলাদেশের পুলিশের বিরুদ্ধে তার কর্তব্য পালনের নামে মানবাধিকার লংঘনের অভিযোগ আছে। এই ভিডিওতে সেই মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের ঘটনার সামান্যই দেখতে পেলেন। আমি জানতে চাই যে সমস্ত পুলিশ সদস্য প্রকাশ্যে এভাবে চরম মানবাধিকার লংঘনের ঘটনা ঘটালো তার প্রতিকার কী হবে?
