Those who are acquainted with Mr Mahmood’s write-ups know very well how this charge is bogus. In his writing we never found any trace of provocation or incitement. He has all along stood against the persecution of the ethnic and religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Imtiaz Bhai is a man of amiable nature. He keeps himself away from politics. Shooting photos was his favourite pastime. And, he wrote on Facebook on different issues regularly. Because of his connection with Communism during his student life, he was close to Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB). But, he also largely supported the ruling party of Awami League. It is indeed surprising that the government has arrested him under the draconian law.
The repressive Digital Security Act must be made null and void. We all should raise our voice against the arrest of anyone under this Act. No matter which political party the person owes allegiance to. The nation badly needs such voices of protests.

নিন্দিত তথ্য প্রযুক্তি আইনে আইনজীবি ইমতিয়াজ মাহমুদকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছিলো এক সপ্তাহ আগে। একদিন পরে সে ছাড়া পায়। তার বিরুদ্ধে মামলায় বলা হয়েছে তিনি নাকি অবিরাম সাম্প্রদায়িক উস্কানি দেন।
ইমতয়াজ মাহমুদের লেখা যারা পড়েছেন তারা কখনো তার লেখায় সাম্প্রদায়িক উস্কানির লেশমাত্রও দেখাতে পারবেন না। বরং তিনি পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামে জাতিগত সংখ্যালঘুদের উপরে নিপীড়ন বাংলাদেশে ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘুদের উপরে নির্যাতনের বিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চার থেকেছেন।
ছাত্র জীবনে বাম ছাত্র সংগঠন ছাত্র ইউনিয়ন করার সুবাদে তাকে আমাদের প্রজন্মের অগ্রজ হিসেবেই সবসময় বিবেচনা করেছি। ইমতিয়াজ ভাই নির্বিবাদী মানুষ, রাজনীতির মানুষও নন। আইন পেশার পাশাপাশি তিনি ফটোগ্রাফি করতেন আর ফেইসবুকে লেখালেখি করতেন। তিনি ছাত্র ইউনিয়নের ঐতিহ্য ধারণ করার জন্য সিপিবি ঘেঁষা ছিলেন, তবে মোটা দাগে তিনি বৃহত্তর আওয়ামী বয়ানেরই সমর্থক। তার মতো মানুষকেও এই দানবীয় নিপীড়ক আইন রেহাই দিলোনা।
ডিজিটাল সিকিউরিটি অ্যাক্টের মতো জঘন্য নিপীড়ক আইনের বাতিল চাই। আমি সকলকেই আহ্বান করবো, ডিজিটাল আইনে যেই গ্রেপ্তার হোন না কেন, তার সাথে আপনার যতই রাজনৈতিক বিরোধ থাকুক না কেন, প্রতিবাদ করুন। এই প্রতিবাদের মূল্য অনেক।
