“If any BNP candidate approaches you seeking your vote, just thrash him. Ask for our help if you cannot treat him that way. We will come down with our top district level leaders and beat the BNP leaders and workers black and blue.
“Chhatra League and Juba League (which are the student and youth wings of Awami League) will not be needed to teach them a lesson. We, the Swechchhasebak League (which is a volunteer wing of Awami League) will be enough to handle the situation. Swechchhasebak League will not allow any BNP leader to take part in the election in Kustia upazilla, we promise. No one will be allowed to vote secretly or in privacy. Caste your vote openly for the BNP, if you have the courage. If you cannot do that, go back home without casting your vote. We will turn up there and caste the votes (in favour of Awami League).”
According to this video, last Sunday, Jakir Hossain, the convener of Kustia Sadar Upazilla Swechchhasebak League, was seen delivering this speech while encouraging his colleagues. In recent weeks, several such videos have surfaced in which the ruling party leaders were found exhorting their supporters and activists to loot votes in favour of Awami League. They are openly saying that they will not allow any opposition party candidate to take part in the elections. Such threats against opposition party candidates are unprecedented in the world. Very strangely, the Election Commission is not taking any action against these rogue ruling party leaders.
Are the nations all around aware how Bangladesh is moving towards a so-called free, fair and all-inclusive elections? Does the international community have nothing to do in this situation?

“কোন বিএনপির নেতা কর্মী ভোট চাইতে গেলে ওদের পিঠের চামড়া তুলে ফেলবেন। আর যদি না পারেন আমাদের ডাকবেন, আমরা যাব জেলা নেতৃবৃন্দকে সাথে নিয়ে। ঐ অঞ্চলের বিএনপির নেতা কর্মীদের পিঠের চামড়া তুলে নেব,” গত রোববার কুস্টিয়া সদর উপজেলা স্বচ্ছাসেবক লীগের আহবায়ক জাকির হোসেন তার সংগঠনের নেতা কর্মিদের উদ্দেশ্যে এই কথাগুলো বলছেন বলে ভিডিওতে দেখা যাচ্ছে।
“ছাত্রলীগ লাগবে না, যুবলীগ লাগবে না, কোন সংগঠন লাগবে না, স্বেচ্ছাসেবকলীগ কুষ্টিয়া সদর উপজেলায় বিএনপিকে নির্বাচন করতে মাঠে দেবে না, দেবে না, দেবে না। কীসের গোপন বুথ! কোন গোপন বুথ থাকবে না। বিএনপিকে ভোট দিতে চাইলে প্রকাশ্যে ভোট দে, নাহলে বাড়ি চলে যান। প্রকাশ্যে ভোট দেবেন, না পারলে আমাদেরকে বলবেন। আমরা গিয়ে প্রকাশ্যে ভোট দিব।”
এমন প্রচুর ভিডিও বক্তব্যের প্রমাণ আছে যেখানে সরকারি দলের নেতারা ভয়াবহ রকমের ভোট ডাকাতির নির্দেশনা দিচ্ছেন। প্রতিপক্ষকে নির্বাচনের মাঠ ছাড়া করার ঘোষণা দিচ্ছেন। বাংলাদেশের শুধু নয় পৃথিবীর নির্বাচনের ইতিহাসে এই ঘটনা নজিরবিহীন। নির্বাচন কমিশন কোন ঘটনার বিরুদ্ধেই কোন ব্যবস্থা নেয়নি।
আমরা আন্তর্জাতিক মহলের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করতে চাই, বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচনে নাগরিকদের ভোট দেয়ার অধিকারকে এমনভাবে খর্ব করা হয়েছে যার নজির নেই। আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়ের কি এক্ষেত্রে কিছুই করণীয় নেই?
