“I have not seen my father and missed his love for a long time. I want to see my father. Please return my father to me. I would like to go to school with my father. I would like to play with him. I am missing my father very much I don’t like to do anything while he is absent among us. I am helpless,” Sajedul Islam Sumon’s daughter Afsana Islam Raida sobbed her feelings out at a seminar in Dhaka recently. Sumon was disappeared in 2013 and remains untraced.

Tears rolled down raida’s face at the seminar on victims of enforced disappearance as she appealed to the government to return her father to her. Many of those present at the seminar were in tears after they listened to her heart-rending appeals.

Raida cried loudly on the microphone asking for her father’s whereabouts. She said her father should be returned to her family.

“Do you know how my father is doing now? I do not know. I want to see him. I want him to be with me,” Raida said.

“My mother and other relatives say I should move around carefully. Why does it matter if I move carefully or not? Let them disappear me as well. I will be able to meet my father then. I am his daughter, but I have not seen him for five years. How long do I have to wait to see him?”

Sajedul Islam Suman and his six friends were abducted from one of his friend’s house in Basundhara residential area on December 15, 2013. Two others too were picked up from the same area later. Sanjida Islam Tulee, Suman’s sister, said the men who took away Suman and his friends introduced themselves as members from RAB-1 (Rapid Action Battalion – 1). All of them remain missing as their relatives keep searching for them running from pillar to post.

In the past 10 years over 500 people went missing in Bangladesh in near-identical style. Some of them returned home. Some others were found killed, while others remain missing.

Sadly, the painful cries of the near and dear ones of the victims of enforced disappearance remains unheard. The government has done little to trace out the disappeared people. It keeps claiming that it has done a lot for the development of the nation on all fronts and says the ruling party should be voted to stay on in power. This is a bogus claim. And, its appeal for vote leaves me exasperated.

“কতদিন হলো বাবাকে দেখি না। বাবার আদর পাই না। বাবাকে দেখতে খুব মন চায়। আমার বাবাকে ফিরিয়ে দিন,” কাঁদতে কাঁদতে কথাগুলো বলছিলেন ২০১৩ সালে ‘গুম’ হওয়া সাজেদুল ইসলাম সুমনের মেয়ে আফসানা ইসলাম রাইদা।

“আমি বাবার সঙ্গে স্কুলে যেতে চাই। বাবার সঙ্গে খেলতে চাই। বাবা ছাড়া আমার কিছু ভালো লাগে না। আমি খুব অসহায়।”

মাইকে যখন রাইদা তার বাবাকে ফিরে পাওয়ার জন্য করুণ আকুতি জানাচ্ছিলেন তখন তার দু’চোখ বেয়ে পানি গড়িয়ে পড়ছিল। তার সেই কান্নায় ভিজে যাচ্ছিলো সভায় উপস্থিত সকলের হৃদয়। এ সময় কারো কারো গাল বেয়ে নোনা জল পড়তে দেখা যায়।

উচ্চস্বরে কাঁদতে কাঁদতে রাইদা আরো বলেন, “আমি আমার বাবাকে দেখতে চাই। আমার বাবা কোথায়? আমার বাবা কেমন আছে, আমি কিছু জানি না। আমার বাবাকে ফিরিয়ে দিন… আমাকে আমার পরিবার বলে সাবধানে চলতে। আমি সাবধানে চলে কী করব। আমাকে নিয়ে যাবে? আমাকে নিয়ে যেতে দিন, গুম করে দিতে দিন। তাহলে আমি আমার বাবাকে দেখতে পারব। আমি কেমন সন্তান যে, আমার বাবাকে পাঁচ বছর ধরে দেখতে পাই না।”

রাইদার করুণ আর্তনাদে এসময় পুরো সেমিনারের পরিবেশটাই শোকার্ত হয়ে উঠে। অনেকেরই চোখ মুছতে দেখা যায়।

সাজেদুল ইসলাম সুমন ও তাঁর ছয় বন্ধুকে ২০১৩ সালের ১৫ ডিসেম্বর বসুন্ধরা আবাসিক এলাকায় তাঁদের এক বন্ধুর বাসা থেকে তুলে নেয়া হয়৷ ঐ এলাকা থেকে পরে আরো দু’জনকে তুলে নেয়া হয়৷ সুমনের ছোট বোন সানজিদা ইসলাম জানান, ‘‘তাঁদের র‌্যাব-১ পরিচয়ে তুলে নেয়া হয়৷”

কী মর্মান্তিক। গত দশ বছরে দেশে যে পাঁচশোর বেশী মানুষ গুম হয়েছে তাদের প্রত্যেক পরিবারেরই এমন বুকফাটা কান্না মেশানো অনেক অকথিত গল্প আছে।

গুমের শিকার কয়েকশত পরিবারের কান্না আজকে যাদের কানে পৌছুচ্ছে না, তারা উন্নয়নের গল্প শুনিয়ে পুরু মেক-আপে মুখ ঢেকে তাদের এক্সপায়ার্ড পর্দা ইমেজ ব্যবহার করে জনগণকে আবার এই শাসকদের ভোট দেয়ার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে। সত্যি কথা বলতে কি এসব দেখে আমার বমি পায়।
