Bengali language national daily Prathom Alo has carried an important news story on page 3 today. However, the news is missing in the paper’s online version.
A huge number of people from Bangladesh moved to India in the past decades permanently. It has been alleged that they fled to India after facing persecution in Bangladesh.
According to this Prathom Alo report, around 700 Hindu families left Dinajpur and crossed over to India in the past 10 years, largely because of torture by Awami League MP Manoranjan Sil Gopal and his men. It’s Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad that has made this allegation.
How will you explain this issue of departure of the Hindus from Bangladesh? Could you just call it a case of just “Hindu persecution”?
The case in Dinajpur shows that this is not the complete story that the minority Hindus fled Bangladesh after being victims of persecution by the majority Muslims.
For the past five years I have been saying that the issue is not as simple as described by Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad. But, I have faced severe criticism from the secular Left and the Hindu community for my views on this issue. My Facebook page have been awash by blatant abuses from different corners.
I have agreed that Hindus have been victims of persecution and injustice in Bangladesh. I also said that such persecution and injustice must be brought to an end. But, on this issue of why Hindus are victims in Bangladesh my points run counter to the simple explanations presented by the Hindu groups and the secular Left. They insist, it is a crisis stemmed from the religious differences in the society. But, I say the problem lies with the State’s faulty structure and its denial of rights to its citizens.
We have not succeeded to build a State which can guarantee all citizens their rights. And, we have not been able to groom our citizens with the mindset who will remain uncompromising on the issue of everyone’s rights as citizen.
This is the reason why Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad speaks only on the issue of Hindus leaving Bangladesh or desecration of Hindu idols. And, they never raise their voice when people in the country become victims of enforced disappearance, extrajudicial killing, citizens are denied of their fundamental rights and the democratic institutions are forced to go to rack and ruin. They fail to perceive that the troubles for the minority Hindus will not end until the State is restructured or goes through a complete revamp.

আজ ২৫ অক্টোবর ২০১৮ তে প্রথম আলোর তৃতীয় পৃষ্ঠায় এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সংবাদটি এসেছে। যদিও এর অনলাইন ভার্শন আমি খুঁজে পেলাম না।
বাংলাদেশ থেকে বিপুল পরিমাণে মানুষ ভারতে স্থায়ীভাবে চলে যায়। অভিযোগ আছে তারা নিপীড়ন নির্যাতনের শিকার হয়েই দেশত্যাগ করে। এই সংবাদে দেখানো হচ্ছে স্থানীয় আওয়ামী লীগ সংসদ সদস্য মনোরঞ্জণ শীল গোপালের অত্যাচারে গত দশ বছরে এই ৭০০ হিন্দু পরিবার দেশ ছেড়েছে। এই অভিযোগ করছে স্বয়ং হিন্দু বৌদ্ধ খ্রিস্টান ঐক্য পরিষদ।
এই ঘটনাকে আপনি কীভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করবেন? এটাকে কি আপনি “হিন্দু নির্যাতন” বলে দায়িত্ব শেষ করতে পারবেন?
এই ঘটনা যা পরিস্কারভাবে বলছে তা হচ্ছে, বাংলাদেশের সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দুরা সংখ্যাগুরু মুসলমানদের অত্যাচারে দেশ ছাড়ছে এই বয়ান যেটা চালু আছে তা খণ্ডিত এবং সম্পুর্ণ নয়।
আমি এই কথাটা গত পাঁচ বছর ধরে বলে আসছি। এবং আমার এই কথার কারণে হিন্দু সম্প্রদায় ও তথাকথিত বাম স্যেকুলারদের অকথ্য আক্রমনের শিকার হয়েছি। আমার নামে গালাগালিতে ফেবুর দেয়াল ছয়লাব হয়ে থাকে।
আমি তো কোথাও অস্বীকার করিনি যে বাংলাদেশে হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ নানা নিপীড়ন এবং অন্যায়ের শিকার হয়। এই নিপীড়ন এবং অন্যায় বন্ধ হওয়া দরকার এটাও আমি মনে করি। তবে এই নিপীড়ন ও অত্যাচার কেন হয় এইখানে আমি হিন্দু সম্প্রদায় ও বাম স্যেকুলারদের সরলিকৃত ধারণার বিরুদ্ধে বলি। হিন্দু ও বাম স্যেকুলারেরা বলেন এইটা একটা ধর্মীয় সমস্যা। আমি বলি এইটা রাষ্ট্র গঠনের সমস্যা এবং আমাদের নাগরিক ধারণা ও নাগরিক অধিকারের সমস্যা।
আমরা এমন রাষ্ট্র বানাতে পারিনি যে নাগরিক অধিকার কায়েম করবে। আর আমরা এমন নাগরিক গড়ে তুলতে পারিনি যে নাগরিক অধিকার কায়েমের প্রশ্নে আপোষহীন থাকবে।
এই কারণেই হিন্দু বৌদ্ধ খ্রিস্টান ঐক্য পরিষদ, দেশত্যাগ আর প্রতিমা ভাঙা নিয়ে সোচ্চার আর গুম, খুন, ক্রস ফায়ার, সভা সমাবেশের অধিকার হরন, ভোটাধিকার হরন, গনতান্ত্রিক প্রতিষ্ঠান গুলো ধবংস হয়ে যাওয়া নিয়ে নীরব।
রাষ্ট্রের মেরামত ছাড়া যে এই সমস্যা গুলো মিটবেনা এটা অনুধাবনে তারা ব্যর্থ।
