John Locke said that rights to life, liberty and property are integral to human life. The words of the British philosopher became a clarion call ahead of the liberation of America. Indeed this is the fact that, a very important achievement of human civilisation and political struggle surrounds these three words of John Locke. In Bangladesh these three key elements of human rights have been completely destroyed. People have no rights to their life, liberty and property.
We do not know when we will be abducted and then disappear. According to the latest figure from “Odhikar”, since 2009 at least 1,877 people have been killed in so-called cross-fire. Among 486 people who were disappeared, 62 were found killed. And, 278 people returned home or were shown arrested while 146 still remain untraced after they had disappeared, the human rights organisation reported.
Among those killed in crossfire was Akramul Haque. He was killed while he was in the custody of security forces. They planned to pass it off as a killing in gunfight between two groups. But, after an audio clip reportedly recorded by Haque’s wife became public and the news of his killing was covered across the international media, the world knew that the man had been shot dead in custody.
And, then there are the cases of enforced disappearances. People disappear following abduction and many of them never return.
There is no freedom of expression of our views in Bangladesh. We do not have the freedom to hold political meetings and rallies. We have no freedom to protest or criticise. Even, we do not have the freedom to exercise our franchise to change a regime after five years. We have also lost our rights to vote freely.
It sounds incredible, but it’s true that we have no right to our property in the country. Anyone or any group with support from the ruling party can take away someone’s small personal property and even an entire bank. Islami Bank was taken over in the same way. Aniruddha Roy was abducted and his business partner took away the control of the business. Properties of opposition party leaders and activists as well as many other socially weak people are also being taken over in the same style and and they are being ousted from their properties.
Oikya Front should raise its voice demanding a change in the regime to secure the safety of people’s life, liberty and property. The international community should support this fight against the serious human rights violations in Bangladesh.

ব্রিটিশ দার্শনিক জন লক বলেছিলেন, মানুষের অবিচ্ছেদ্য মানবিক অধিকার হচ্ছে তার জীবনের অধিকার, তার মুক্তির অধিকার ও তার সম্পদের অধিকার। এটাই আমেরিকার স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা হয়ে ওঠে। সত্য কথা বলতে মানুষের সভ্যতার আর রাজনৈতিক সংগ্রামের অন্যতম প্রধান অর্জন জন লকের সেই তিনটা শব্দ- লাইফ, লিবার্টি, প্রপার্টি।
বাংলাদেশে মানুষের এই অলঙ্ঘনীয় মানবিক অধিকারের তিনটাই বিপর্যস্ত। আমাদের লাইফ, লিবার্টি আর প্রপার্টির অধিকার নেই।
আমরা কেউই জানিনা কে কবে কীভাবে আমাদের তুলে নিয়ে যাবে তারপর আমাদের হদিস পাওয়া যাবেনা। মানবাধিকার সংগঠন “অধিকার”-এর হিসাব অনুযায়ী, ২০০৯ সাল থেকে ১৮৭৭ জনকে ক্রস ফায়ারে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। ৪৮৬ জন গুম হয়েছে, তার মধ্যে ৬২ জনকে মৃত অবস্থায় পাওয়া গেছে, ২৭৮ জন হয় ফিরে এসেছে অথবা গ্রেফতার দেখানো হয়েছে ১৪৬ জনের কোন খোঁজ এখনো পর্যন্ত পাওয়া যায়নি।
ক্রসফায়ারে মৃতের মধ্যে আছে আকরামুলের হত্যা, যাকে বন্দী অবস্থায় হত্যা করে তার চারদিকে কিছু গুলি ছড়িয়ে দিয়ে সেটাকে বন্দুকযুদ্ধ বলে চালানোর চেষ্টা করা হয়েছিলো। আর আছে গুম হয়ে যাওয়া মানুষ, যাদের অনেকে কখনো ফিরে আসেনা।
আমাদের মত প্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা নেই, সভা সমাবেশের স্বাধীনতা নেই, প্রতিবাদ করার স্বাধীনতা নেই, এমনকি পাঁচ বছর পর পর ভোট দিয়ে রেজিম বদলাবো, সেই স্বাধীনতাটুকুও নেই। আমাদের ভোট দেয়া স্বাধীনতাও হরণ করা হয়েছে।
সবচেয়ে ভয়ঙ্কর ব্যাপার, আমাদের সম্পত্তির অধিকার নেই। শাসকদলের সমর্থন নিয়ে যে কেউ কেড়ে নিতে পারে কোনো কিছু, তা সামান্য ব্যক্তিগত সম্পত্তি হোক বা বৃহৎ একটা ব্যাঙ্ক। ইসলামি ব্যাঙ্ক কেড়ে নেয়াটা একটা উদাহরণ। অনিরুদ্ধ রায়কে গুম করে তার ব্যবসায়িক প্রতিষ্ঠানের মালিকানা লিখিয়ে নেয়ার অভিযোগ উঠেছে তার ব্যবসায়িক পার্টনারের বিরুদ্ধে। গ্রামে গ্রামে বিরোধী দলের নেতা কর্মীই শুধু নয় অসংখ্য সামাজিকভাবে দুর্বল মানুষ তাদের জমি বসত বাড়ি থেকে প্রতিনিয়ত উৎখাত হয়ে যাচ্ছে।
ঐক্য ফ্রন্টের উচিত এই তিন অলঙ্ঘনীয় মানবিক অধিকার জীবন, স্বাধীনতা আর সম্পত্তির নিরাপত্তা রক্ষার জন্য শাসকের পরিবর্তনের আওয়াজ তোলা।
এই অলঙ্ঘনীয় মানবিক অধিকার হরণের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের চলমান লড়াইয়ের পক্ষে পশ্চিমা বিশ্বের কি নৈতিক সমর্থন দেয়া উচিত নয়?
