Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said, BNP is using huge amount of “money” for lobbying in political interest. But, “Prothom Alo” presented a completely different information yesterday.

“Prothom Alo” said, Awami League, while it was in opposition, was the first political party that used good amount dollars and engaged lobbyists to create international pressure against the government in Bangladesh. In 2005-2007, AL appointed Alcalde & Fay , an American lobbying agency, and spent around US$ 1.25 million for a negative campaign against the policies of the government. Recently Bangladesh government has appointed BGR group, another American agency as its lobbyist, at the cost of around US$ 1.35 million.

In a PR exercise, BNP too has appointed a lobbying agency in attempt to publicly present the party’s election-related policies and goals. There’s nothing wrong in it.

However, Mr Quader is talking about the lobbyists in a way which appears he does not know at all what such lobbying exercise is. It’s a big joke.

সেই রিপোর্ট থেকে দেখা যাচ্ছে, প্রকাশিত তথ্য অনুসারে আওয়ামী লীগই প্রথম রাজনৈতিক দল যারা সরকারের নীতির বিরুদ্ধে আন্তর্জাতিক চাপ তৈরির জন্য অনেক ডলার খরচ করে লবীস্ট নিয়োগ দিয়েছিলো।
