After Mim and Raju were killed in road accidents a few months ago, students launched widespread movement in Bangladesh seeking improved road safety. The killers of Mim and Raju have not just been granted bails, even the cases against them have been adjourned.
When the students took to the streets and shook the country with their movement, many citizens stood by them in solidarity and got arrested. Among those who were arrested and jailed, there was internationally acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam.
While the police cases against the killers of Mim and Raju have been adjourned, surprisingly, the suits against Mr Alam remain active and he continues be in jail since the beginning of August.

পথ দুর্ঘটনায় মিম ও রাজুর নির্মম মৃত্যুর পরে সারা দেশে ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের নিরাপদ সড়কের দাবীতে অভুতপুর্ব আন্দোলন গড়ে উঠেছিল। সেই মিম এবং রাজুর খুনীরা জামিন তো পেয়েছেই, এমনকি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে মামলার কার্যক্রম স্থগিত করা হয়েছে।
ছাত্ররা “উই ওয়ান্ট জাস্টিস” বলে যে রাজপথ প্রকম্পিত করেছিল সেই আন্দোলনের সাথে সংহতি জানাতে গিয়ে অসংখ্য মানুষ গ্রেফতার হয়েছে, নির্যাতিত হয়েছে, যাদের মধ্যে অন্যতম বিখ্যাত ফটোগ্রাফার শহীদুল আলম। কি আশ্চর্য ব্যাপার যে শহিদুল আলম এখনো জেলে,তাঁর নামে মামলা চলমান, অথচ মিম আর রাজুর খুনীদের মামলা স্থগিত করে দেয়া হয়েছে।
