Oikkya Front held a very important pre-election political rally in Rajshahi. Since this morning, the government blocked all key roads entering the city obviously to stop many people from attending the rally from outside the city. The city virtually got disconnected from the rest of the country. Three days ago, the government adopted exactly the same policy to keep people away from another Oikya Front rally in Dhaka.
Previously the Awami League-led government was not allowing any opposition party to hold any political rally. Now, they giving permission to hold the rallies, but adopting mischievous strategies to scuttle the political programmes of the opposition parties.
However, this government has been claiming before the international community that it would hold “free and fair” elections in the country. Could we believe that this government will tolerate a defeat, allow opposition party supporters peacefully cast their votes, and will not misuse the State machineries to rig the elections when it cannot allow the opposition parties to hold political rallies?
বিরোধী দলের রাজনৈতিক সমাবেশে সরকার বাধা দিয়েই চলেছে
ঐক্যফ্রন্টের বিভাগীয় সমাবেশ ছিলো আজ রাজশাহীতে। সরকার প্রভাব খাটিয়ে এই সভাতেও যেন রাজশাহী নগরের বাইরে থেকে কেউ আসতে না পারে সেইজন্য রাজশাহীর সকল বাস বন্ধ করে দিয়েছিলো আজ সকাল থেকেই। দৃশ্যতঃ রাজশাহী নগর সারা দেশ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছিলো আজ। তিন দিন আগে ঐক্য ফ্রন্টের ঢাকার সমাবেশের ক্ষেত্রেও ঠিক একইভাবে সরকার জনসাধারণের জন্য প্রতিবন্ধকতার সৃষ্টি করেছিলো।
আগে তারা সমাবেশের অনুমতি দিতোনা। এখন অনুমতি দিলেও সমাবেশে এভাবে ছোটলকি মফস্বলি আচরণে বাধার সৃষ্টি করা হচ্ছে। আবার এই সরকারি দল দেশে বিদেশে দাবী করছে যে তারা একটি নিরপেক্ষ ও অবাধ নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত করবে। যারা প্রতিপক্ষের একটা রাজনৈতিক সমাবেশ সহ্য করতে পারেনা, তারা নিজেদের পরাজয় সহ্য করবে, বিরোধী দলের ভোটার, কর্মি সমর্থকদের নির্বিবাদে ভোট করতে দেবে এবং ভোটকে প্রভাবিত করার জন্য রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্রকে ব্যবহার করবেনা, এই প্রত্যাশা করা যায় কি?
