At least 18 people have been killed in so-called crossfire in the past 6 days and the government version is that they are mostly drug peddlers or traders. Interestingly, a section of Bangladesh’s middle class feels a sense of relief with these extrajudicial killings.
Let’s not forget that although this time some drug peddlers have been killed in crossfire, usually the protesting young voices are the targets of such extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh.
Whatever the charges involved, extrajudicial killings cannot be tolerated in a civilised nation. Only a nation headed by a fascist government will allow its security forces indulge in the practice of extrajudicial killings.
Let’s ask these questions to the State:
Why is the State or its agencies cannot take these alleged offenders to the court?
Why is the State allowing the security agencies act as Judge, Jury and Executioner?
It’s a different issue if you want to take back the nation to the Dark Age or turn it to a primitive society. But, we cannot allow extrajudicial killing of people in the name of crossfire in a modern civilised country.
গত ছয় দিনে তথাকথিত ক্রস ফায়ারে কমপক্ষে আঠারজনকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। সরকারী বরাত মতে তাদের বেশীরভাগই মাদক ব্যবসায়ী। আশ্চর্যজনকভাবে বাংলাদেশের মধ্যবিত্তের একটা অংশ এই বিচারবহির্ভুত হত্যাকাণ্ডে স্বস্তি পাচ্ছে।
আমাদের এটা ভুলে যায়া উচিৎ নয় যে, যদিও এখন মাদক ব্যবসার সাথে যুক্ত বলে অভিযুক্ত কিছু মানুষ ক্রস ফায়ারে মারা যাচ্ছে, সাধারনত প্রতিবাদী তরুণেরাই বাংলাদেশে ক্রস ফায়ারের শিকার হয়েছে।
অভিযোগ যাই হোক না কেন, একটা সভ্য দেশে ক্রস ফায়ার চলতে পারেনা। একমাত্র ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকারের আমলেই এমনভাবে রাষ্ট্রীয় বাহিনী বিচার বহির্ভুত হত্যাকাণ্ডে লিপ্ত হতে পারে।
আসুন আমরা রাষ্ট্রকে প্রশ্ন করিঃ
কেন রাষ্ট্রীয় বাহিনী অভিযুক্তকে আদলতে হাজির করছে না?
কেন রাষ্ট্রীয় বাহিনী নিজেই একাধারে আদালত, আইনজ্ঞ আর জল্লাদের ভুমিকা নিচ্ছে?
