After AMAR DESH editor Mahmudur Rahman presented himself in the Kushtia Magistrate court today in connection with a legal suit, he was granted bail. But the goons of the pro-government Chhatro League have laid siege to the court and they are not allowing Mr Rahman to come out.
Despite being present on the spot, the police forces are not taking any action against the Chhatro League cadres and we are worried about Mr Rahman’s safety.
The government should ensure the safety of the vetaran editor. We urge all democratic forces of Kushtia to come forward to protect Mr Rahman. You can locally create pressure to push back the pro-government goons.
We also urge the foreign missions in Bangladesh and the international media outlets to look into this ongoing case.
“আমার দেশ” সম্পাদক মাহমুদুর রহমান আজ কুষ্টিয়া ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট কোর্টে হাজিরা দিতে গেলে কোর্ট তাকে জামিন দেয় । কিন্তু কোর্ট প্রাঙণে ছাত্রলীগের পাণ্ডারা মাহমুদুর রহমানকে অবরুদ্ধ রেখেছে। পুলিশ মাহমুদুর রহমানকে রক্ষা বা উদ্ধারের জন্য কোনো দৃশ্যমান তৎপরতা করছে না। আমরা মাহমুদুর রহমানের নিরাপত্তা নিয়ে উদ্বিগ্ন।
সরকারকে মাহমুদুর রহমানের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করার আহবান জানাচ্ছি। কুস্টিয়ার গনতান্ত্রিক জনগন আপনারা নিজেরা উদ্যোগী হয়ে মাহমুদুর রহমানের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করুন। আপনারাই পারেন স্থানীয় চাপ সৃস্টি করে গুণ্ডাদের ঠেকাতে।
সকল মানবাধিকার সংস্থা, বিদেশি মিডিয়া এবং দূতাবাসসমূহকে এই বিষয়ে খোঁজ নেয়ার অনুরোধ জানাচ্ছি।
