Some years ago, when the country was in a political chaos, Poornima Rani Sheel was gang raped by some political culprits. She was a young girl then, and the whole country exploded in an outrage against the barbaric act.
In Bangladesh, there is a national ban on publication of photo or video of a rape victim. But, in defiance of the law, a former government minister has posted several photos of the rape victim Poornima on her verified Facebook page. It’s fine that she has given Poornima a job in her office. But, it’s unbelievable that she does not know that she cannot publish the unmasked photo of a rape victim. She has used the victimhood of a girl to push her and her party’s political agenda. This is indeed in bad taste. Some news portals or newspapers too have violated the law by publishing the photo along with the news about Poornima.
The whole country stood by Poornima after she was raped. Today the country feels equally sad to find her humiliated by a former minister and the media again.

পুর্নিমা রাণী শীল রাজনৈতিক ডামাডোলের এক দারুণ দুঃসময়ে রাজনৈতিক দুর্বৃত্তদের হাতে গণ ধর্ষিতা হয়েছিল। সেইসময়ে সে ছিল কিশোরী। সারা দেশ এই ভয়ানক বর্বরতায় প্রতিবাদে ফেটে পড়েছিল।
বাংলাদেশে রেইপ ভিক্টিমের ছবি প্রকাশ করায় রাষ্ট্রীয় নিশেধাজ্ঞা আছে। অথচ সরকারের এক সাবেক মন্ত্রী সেইসব আইনকে বৃদ্ধাঙ্গুলি দেখিয়ে নিজের ভেরিফাইড ফেইসবুক পাতায় রেইপ ভিক্টিম পুর্নিমার ছবি দিয়েছেন। সেই খবর ছবিসহ ছেপেছে আরেক গণমাধ্যম। পুর্নিমাকে ব্যক্তিগত কর্মকর্তা বানিয়েছেন ভালো কথা, কিন্তু এই সংবাদ জানানোর জন্য তার ছবি ব্যবহার করাটা যে আইনের বরখেলাপ সেটা বাংলাদেশের আইনপ্রনেতা জানেন না এটা হতাশাজনক। ভিক্টিমহুডকে নিজের ব্যক্তিগত ও তার দলের জনপ্রিয়তার বাহন হিসেবে ব্যবহার করাটা এক ধরনের কুরুচি। কিছু মিডিয়া একইভাবে পুর্নিমার ছবিসহ সংবাদ প্রচার করেছে।
পুর্নিমা যখন ধর্ষিতা হয়েছিল তখন সারা দেশের মানুষ তার পাশে দাড়িয়েছিল। দেশবাসী পুর্নিমার কষ্টে আর লজ্জায় সমব্যথী তাই তার পুনর্বার অপমানেও তারা আজ সমভাবে বেদনাহত।
