Yesterday, in front of BNP headquarters in Dhaka, Khaleda Zia’s supporters began a peaceful demonstration with black flags, seeking their leader’s release from jail. Police caned the demonstrators and attacked them with hot water using water cannon.
During the action pro-Awami League men ganged up with police and pounced on the women supporters of BNP. Here’s a photo which shows an AL or a pro-AL goon (I think “goon” is the right word to describe someone in such action) dragging lawyer Ms Nipun Roy by her hair. Identity of that goon is yet to be confirmed.
Many believe, AL is kind to Hindus because of the existence of the party’s Hindu “vote bank” in Bangladesh. But, the fact is, if citizens from the minority community do not support AL, the ruling party and the police under its control can be ruthless to them. They will not be spared even if they happen to be women!
গতকাল বিএনপি অফিসের সামনে তাদের নেত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার মুক্তির দাবীতে শান্তিপুর্ণ কালো পতাকা মিছিলে পুলিশ জলকামান ছুড়ে আর লাঠিপেটা করে মিছিলকারীদের ছত্রভঙ্গ করে দেয়ার চেষ্টা করে।
এমন সময় সাদা পোশাকে সরকার সমর্থক গুণ্ডাবাহিনী বিএনপির নারী কর্মিদের উপরে হামলে পরে। ছবিতে দেখা যাচ্ছে এডভোকেট নিপুন রায়কে চুল ধরে হেনস্থা করছে এক সাদা পোশাকের আওয়ামীলীগের সমর্থক গুন্ডা। গুন্ডার পরিচয় নিশ্চিত করা যায়নি।
এমন একটা ধারণা চালু আছে যে আওয়ামীলীগের ভোটব্যাংক হিসেবে সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দুরা থাকায় আওয়ামীলীগ হিন্দুদের প্রতি সহনশীল। কিন্তু সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের কেউ আওয়ামীলীগ বিরোধী হলে তারা ও তাদের নিয়ন্ত্রিত পুলিশ সেই হিন্দুর প্রতি চরম নির্মমতা দেখায়, সে নারী হলেও এই নির্মমতা থেকে সে রক্ষা পায়না।
