There was an interesting report in PROTHOM ALO yesterday. It read:
“Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapai Nowabganj T M Mojahidul Islam said, ‘If you catch a dacoit red-handed, just crush him to death. It’s true, it will end up in murder case. But I shall file my report within a month in such a way that you will not face any hassle- I guarantee this. Why will you be afraid of any action against yourselves, when I stand as the guarantor? As soon as you catch a dacoit, call local people using a loudspeaker and lynch him. If you find any narcotics carrying vehicle around you, burn it immediately. I guarantee you will not be targeted in any police case.’
This statement clearly shows how the seniormost police officer in a district is encouraging mob justice and asking people to take law into their own hands. Does law and order not exist in this country? It indeed shows that the State is not functioning. And, the country is being ruled by some hoodlums and bullies. These people are defacing Bangladesh, and killing the nation we dreamt to build.
প্রথম আলো একটা খবর করেছে। তারা লিখেছে:
“চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জের পুলিশ সুপার (এসপি) টি এম মোজাহিদুল ইসলাম বলেছেন, ‘ডাকাত যদি হাতেনাতে পান, তো জলজ্যান্ত ওটাকে পিষে মেরে ফেলেন। একটা মার্ডার কেস নেব, এটা সত্য কথা এবং এক মাসের মধ্যে ফাইনাল রিপোর্ট দিয়ে চলে আসব। গ্যারান্টি আমার। আমি যদি গ্যারান্টার হই, তবে আপনাদের কোনো ভয় আছে? যদি ডাকাত হাতেনাতে ধরতে পারেন, এলাকার লোকজনকে মাইকে ডেকে এনে ওকে পিষে মেরে ফেলেন। মাদকের গাড়ি হলে সেটি আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দেবেন। আমি গ্যারান্টি দিচ্ছি, আপনাদের নামে কোনো মামলা হবে না। এই গ্যারান্টি আমার।’
মব জাস্টিসের নামে বিচার বহির্ভুত হত্যাকে রাষ্ট্রীয় পুলিশ বাহিনীর জেলা পর্যায়ের সর্বোচ্চ কর্তা প্রকাশ্যে উৎসাহিত করছে। এই রাষ্ট্রে কি তাহলে কোন আইন আছে? আইনের শাসন আছে? রাষ্ট্র ফাংশন করছে না, ফাংশন করছে রাষ্ট্রের নামে গোষ্ঠীতন্ত্র আর গুন্ডামি। বাংলাদেশ নামের যেই রাষ্ট্রকে গড়বো বলে আমরা স্বপ্ন দেখেছিলাম, সেই রাষ্ট্রকে এরা তিলে তিলে ধ্বংস করে দিয়েছে।
