Yesterday, one Chhatrodol leader was dragged away and arrested from a peaceful demonstration at gunpoint in an inhuman way. The day before, we saw how supporters of the ruling party held a rally in the city, blocked many roads and troubled so many people. They even sexually harassed many women passersby.
Today this is the situation in Bangladesh where none has the right to present a different view. Have those people or groups who campaign for civil rights protested against such ruthlessness? No, they have not done that because that elite secular class in Bangladesh believes, Awami League has to stay on in power in the interest of a progressive Bangladesh. The citizens are being robbed of or denied their fundamental rights. Yet, that secular (!) class won’t care!
গতকাল, এক ছাত্রদল নেতাকে এভাবেই সাদা পোশাকের পুলিশ হাতকড়া পরিয়ে শান্তিপুর্ণ সমাবেশ থেকে পশুর মতো গ্রেফতার করে নিয়ে যায়। অথচ তার আগের দিনই ঢাকা শহরে শাসক দল রাস্তাঘাট বন্ধ করে সারাদিন নিদারুণ জনদুর্ভোগ করে শহরে সমাবেশ করলো। শুধু তাই নয় রাস্তায় নারীদের যৌন নিগ্রহ করলো।
এই হচ্ছে আজকের বাংলাদেশ যেখানে ভিন্নমত প্রকাশের ন্যুনতম অধিকার কারো নেই। কিন্তু ন্যুনতম নাগরিক অধিকারের প্রশ্নে যারা সোচ্চার তারা কেউ কি এই নির্মমতার বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করেছে? করেনি, কারণ বাংলাদেশের এলিট স্যেকুলারেরা মনে করে একটা প্রগ্রেসিভ বাংলাদেশের জন্য আওয়ামীলীগের ক্ষমতায় থাকার দরকার আছে, তাতে নাগরিক অধিকার ক্ষুণ্ণ হলেও তাদের কাছে দৃশ্যত কোন অসুবিধা নাই।
