During the recent special thanking rally of Kaomi Sanad Bangladesh government claimed that none had got killed on May 5, 2013, at Shapla Chattwar of Dhaka. But, “Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee” (Committee for Resisting Killers and Collaborators of Bangladesh Liberation War of 71) or EGDNC said, 39 people were killed on the spot in Dhaka that night. That committee even released a White Paper which carried that statement on the Shapla Chattwar killings. They reportedly handed over a copy of that White Paper to the Speaker at the national Parliament.
EGDNC conducted an inquiry into the killings of Shapla Chattwar and the White Paper was based on that. Nobody believes that this committee prepared the White Paper in a sympathetic gesture towards Hefajat.
In response to a propaganda of “killing of thousands of Islamic scholars” at Shapla Chattwar, EGDNC conducted an inquiry and released the White Paper, Shahriar Kabir said.
It should be noted that EGDNC members like Prof Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir, Prof Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, journalist Kamal Lohani, litterateur Hasan Ajijul Haque, Prof Ajoy Roy, Prof Muntasir Mamun, educationist Shyamolee Nasreen Chowdhury were among the members of the committee that was involved with the White Paper.

কওমি সনদের জন্য শোকরানা সমাবেশে সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে দাবী করা হয়েছিল যে পাঁচই মে শাপলা চত্বরে কেউ মারা যায়নি।
কিন্তু একাত্তরের ঘাতক দালাল নির্মূল কমিটি বলছে সেই রাতে ৩৯ জন মারা গেছিলো। ওই নিয়ে তারা একটা শ্বেতপত্রও প্রকাশ করেছিলো। এই শ্বেতপত্রের কপি তারা জাতীয় সংসদের স্পিকারের হাতেও দিয়েছেন বলে রিপোর্ট বলছে।
এটা তারা তদন্ত করে পেয়েছেন। এই ঘাতক দালাল নির্মূল কমিটি তো হেফাজতের প্রতি সহানুভূতিশীল হয়ে এই তালিকা করার কথা নয়।
হাজার হাজার আলেম হত্যার যে মিথ্যা প্রচারণা চালানো হয় তার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতেই একাত্তরের ঘাতক দালাল নির্মূল কমিটির তরফ থেকে শ্বেতপত্রটি তৈরির উদ্যোগ নেয়া হয় বলে জানান শাহরিয়ার কবির। কমিশনের সদস্যরা হলেন- অধ্যাপক বোরহানউদ্দিন খান জাহাঙ্গীর, অধ্যাপক সিরাজুল ইসলাম চৌধুরী, সাংবাদিক কামাল লোহানী, কথাসাহিত্যিক হাসান আজিজুল হক, অধ্যাপক অজয় রায়, অধ্যাপক মুনতাসীর মামুন, শিক্ষাবিদ শ্যামলী নাসরিন চৌধুরী।
