The Western powers planned to install Aung San Suu kyi to power to add a liberal face to Myanmar’s military junta. But, after that plan materalised, Suu Kyi and Myanmar government did not act any way in the interest of the Western powers. Now, China and India are seeking to reap a good harvest in Myanmar, interestingly.

China and India are keen to invest in Myanmar’s Rakhine and both countries are vying for space in north-west Rakhine’s narrow strip. They want to set up sea ports and develop the area in the interest of their business goal. But, the area is known as the homeland for the Rohingyas who have lived there for centuries. Neither China nor India wants the Rohingyas to remain in the area where the two countries have their business interests. It’s easy to understand why the both countries have supported the ouster of all Rohingyas from the region. I guess, India told Myanmar that Bangladesh would not let the Rohingyas enter its territory if they were driven out of Myanmar. But, the overwhelming support from our citizens in support of the Rohingyas forced the government to open its borders for the refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar.

Both of China and India have been indulging in rights abuses targeting the minority Muslims in the countries. It’s natural for the two countries to take a stand against Myanmar’s Muslim Rohingyas.

The Western powers should not let China and India use Myanmar the way the two countries want. In its own interest the West will have to confront the military junta. The western powers should take steps to corner Myanmar on the issue of the genocide and related human rights abuses. That way a military action against Myanmar can also win international support.

The Rohingya crisis may meet with a dramatic solution if the Western powers take a hard stand against Myanmar. If such hard action really comes through Bangladesh should support the West. The Western forces have to unite and stand against China and India, to establish a long term peace and stability in the region.

If the Western forces join hands with India in attempt to seek a solution in this Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, Bangladesh should not join that side. Bangladesh should never allow itself in a situation where India calls the shots.

পশ্চিমা শক্তি সুকিকে মায়ানমারের ক্ষমতায় এনেছিল যেন মায়ানমারের সামরিক জান্তা একটা লিবারেল ফেইস পায়। কিন্তু কৌতুককর হচ্ছে, সেই পরিকল্পনা বাস্তবায়িত হবার পরেও এই সুকি সহ মায়ানমার সরকার পশ্চিমের স্বার্থে কোন কাজেই আসেনি। সব লাভের গুড় আর বিনিয়োগের সুযোগ নিয়ে নিয়েছে ভারত ও চিন।

মায়ানমারের বঙ্গোপসাগর ঘেঁষা যে চিকন স্ট্রিপ আছে সেখানে মুসলিম ঘণবসতি চিন এবং ভারতীয় বিনিয়োগের জন্য বিপদজনক বলে চিন ও ভারত মনে করে। তাই তারা সেখান থেকে রোহিঙ্গা খেদানোর প্রজেক্টে মায়ানমার জান্তাকে উৎসাহ আর সমর্থন দিয়েছে। এটা অনুমান করা অসম্ভব নয় যে, ভারত মায়ানমারকে বলেছে, ওদের খেদাও বাংলাদেশ তাদের ঢুকতে দেবেনা। তবে বাংলাদেশের গণ মানুষের চাপে শাসক দলকে রোহিঙ্গাদের গ্রহণ করতে বাধ্য হতে হয়েছে।

চিন এবং ভারত অব্যাহতভাবে তাদের রাস্ট্রের ভিতরে মুসলমান জনগোষ্ঠীর বিরুদ্ধে ক্রমাগত মানবাধিকার লংঘন করে চলেছে। তাই তাদের বর্তমান রোহিঙ্গা বিরোধি অবস্থান কোন অস্বাভাবিক বিষয় নয়, বরং তাদের তরফ থেকে এটা হওয়াটাই স্বাভাবিক।

পশ্চিমকে যদি এই অঞ্চলে তাদের আঞ্চলিক স্বার্থ রক্ষা করতে হয় তবে এই অঞ্চলের খবরদারির ভার সে চিন আর ভারতের হাতে ছেড়ে দিতে পারেনা। পশ্চিমের স্বার্থ রক্ষার জন্য তাদের অবশ্যই এই মায়ানমারের সামরিক জান্তাকে কনফ্রন্ট করতে হবে। মায়ানমারের সামরিক জান্তার বিরুদ্ধে গনহত্যা আর মানবাধিকার লংঘনের অভিযোগ এনে জান্তা সরকারকে কোণঠাসা আর পরাস্ত করতে হবে। এমনকি এই গনহত্যা পশ্চিমাদের জান্তা সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে মিলিটারি একশনের বৈধতাও দেবে।

পশ্চিম যদি এই পজিশন নেয়, তাহলে তা রোহিঙ্গা সমস্যার একটা নাটকীয় সমাধান দিতে পারে। পশ্চিম এই পজিশন নিলে বাংলাদেশের আপামর মানুষের তখন উচিৎ হবে পশ্চিমের এই পজিশনের পাশে দাঁড়ানো। এই অঞ্চলের দীর্ঘ মেয়াদি শান্তি আর স্থিতিশীলতার জন্য স্ট্যালিনবাদের ভুত মাথায় নেয়া ফ্যাসিস্ট চিন আর হিন্দুত্ববাদের দানব মাথায় নেয়া গেরুয়া ভারতকে রুখে দাঁড়ানো দরকার। পশ্চিম এই কাজে এগিয়ে আসলে আমাদের কৌশলগত কারণেই পশ্চিমের সাথে থাকা উচিৎ।

তবে পশ্চিম যদি মায়ানমার সমস্যার সমাধানে ভারতের সাথে হাত মেলায় সেই পশ্চিমের সাথে বাংলাদেশের যাওয়া উচিৎ হবেনা। যেকোন ভাবেই ভারতের কব্জামুক্ত হওয়া বাংলাদেশের প্রধান প্রায়োরিটি হওয়া উচিত।
