Here’s a mainstream media report published by Bangladesh’s largest circulated Bengali language newspaper “Prathom Alo” which narrates how the city corporation election was held in Gazipur.

BNP polling agents were abducted before the voting began that day. Some of them were forcibly removed from polling booths. Many of them were detained in the police line. The ballot boxes were stuffed with forged ballots. The BNP agents, who had been abducted, were released in the evening- after the polling was over.

The State machineries helped Awami League in looting the votes, it’s clear. However, a big part of the media working as touts for the government and ruling party, reported that the Gazipur election was fair and free.

জ্বি ভাই দেখেন গাজিপুরে কেমন নির্বাচন হয়েছে। বিএনপির এজেন্টদের গুম করা হয়েছে, পুলিশ লাইনে আটকে রাখা হয়েছে, কাউকে কাউকে ভোট কেন্দ্র থেকে ধরে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়েছে। তারপরে জাল ভোট দিয়ে ব্যালটবাক্স ভরা হয়েছে। ভোট শেষ হবার পরে রাতে তাদের ছেড়ে দেয়া হয়েছে।

সমস্ত প্রশাসন যন্ত্র আওয়ামীলীগের এই ভোট চুরির মহোৎসবে নানা পর্যায়ে অংশ নিয়েছে।
