Whenever a Hindu-Muslim communal riot breaks out, goons from the both sides get involved in it. So, by observing a riot you can never judge how low morally one community is. However, in such situation we can trace out a community’s Good Samaritans who, during the riots, provide protection to the members of the other community. Often they take immense risks and stand against the bad violent people of their own community to save others.
Let’s take a look at this statistically. Prominent historian Tapan Roychowdhury wrote, during the riot in Pakistan regime, at least 30 Muslims, who tried to save Hindus, were killed by Muslim rioters in erstwhile Pakistan. One of those killed Muslims was Ameer Hossain Chowdhury, member of the elite community of Dhaka. Around the same time, in India, only 1 died among those Hindus, who tried to save Muslims from Hindu rioters. In this aspect, compared with Pakistan, our (India’s) history is somewhat poor, the historian said.
This is very disappointing that the stories of such sacrifice by those enlightened Muslims never or rarely feature in any discussion. We should try to trace how or where those Muslims found strength and took risks to save the lives of their Hindu brothers. Across the world, driven by animosity, many forces work to slander Muslims. We should try to stand against those evil forces and unveil the stories of great sacrifices by the Muslims.
হিন্দু মুসলমান যখন দাঙ্গা হয় তখন এই দুই সম্প্রদায়ের নীচ মানুষেরা দাঙ্গায় লিপ্ত হয়। তাই দাঙ্গা দেখে কোন সম্প্রদায় কত বেশী নীচ সেইটার বিচার করা যায়না। কিন্তু এমন সময়েই কোন সম্প্রদায়ে মহৎ মানুষের সংখ্যা তুলনামুলক বেশী সেইটার হদিস পাওয়া যায়। কারণ এমন সময়েই কিছু মানুষ অপর সম্প্রদায়ের আক্রান্ত মানুষকে বুক দিয়ে আগলে রাখতে এগিয়ে যায়। প্রাণের ঝুঁকি নিয়েও নিজ সম্প্রদায়ের নীচ আর হিংস্র মানুষের সামনে দাঁড়ায়।
এইবার আপনাদের একটা পরিসংখ্যান দেই। বিখ্যাত ঐতিহাসিক তপন রায়চৌধুরী জানাচ্ছেন, দাঙ্গাপিড়ীত হিন্দু এলাকায় আক্রান্ত হিন্দু প্রতিবেশীদের রক্ষা করতে গিয়ে মুসলিম দাঙ্গাবাজদের হাতে তৎকালীন পাকিস্তানে নিহত হয়েছেন এমন মুসলমানের সংখ্যা তিরিশ। যার মধ্যে একজন ঢাকার আলোকিত এলিট আমীর হোসেন চৌধুরী। একই সময়ে দাঙ্গাপিড়ীত মুসলমান এলাকায় হিন্দু দাঙ্গাবাজদের হাত থেকে মুসলমান প্রতিবেশীকে রক্ষা করতে গিয়ে ভারতে মারা গেছে মাত্র একজন হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ। তপন রায়চৌধুরী হতাশার সাথে বলেছেন, “পাকিস্তানের তুলনায় আমাদের এই ক্ষেত্রে ইতিহাস কিছুটা দরিদ্র”।
এটা বড়ই হতাশাজনক যে, মুসলমান সম্প্রদায়ের আলোকিত এই মানুষদের আত্মত্যাগ কোন আলোচনাতেই আসেনা। জীবনকে তুচ্ছ করে মানুষের প্রাণ বাঁচাতে এগিয়ে আসা মানুষেরা কোথায় থেকে শক্তি পেয়েছিল আসুন আমরা আজ তার খোজ করি। সারা পৃথিবীতেই মুসলমান সম্প্রদায়ের গায়ে বিদ্বেষবশত কালি লাগিয়ে দেয়ার অপচেষ্টার বিরুদ্ধে দাড়ানোর জন্য আমাদের এই মহত্বের গল্পগুলো পাঠ করা জরুরী।
