(আমাকে ফেইসবুক দুই দফায় ব্যান করেছিল। একবার কাশ্মীর নিয়ে পোস্ট দেয়ায়, আরেকবার নাজি মেডিসিন নিয়ে পোস্ট দেয়ায়। সেই ব্যান করার প্রেক্ষিতে আমি ফেইসবুকের শীর্ষ নির্বাহী মার্ক জাকারবার্গ কে একটি চিঠি লিখি। আমার বার্তা ফেইসবুকের মাধ্যমে তার কাছে পৌছানোর চেষ্টা করি। আমি একেবারে নিশ্চিত নই আমার এই চিঠির জন্যই ব্যান আগাম ছুটেছে কি না। তবে অনুমান করি ব্যান ছুটা চিঠির সাথে সম্পর্কিত। আমার ব্যান তিরিশ দিনের আগেই ছুটে যায়। আমার ব্যান ছোটার পরে আমি মার্ক জাকারবার্গের ব্যক্তিগত ভেরিফাইড পেইজের মাধ্যমে চিঠিটি আবার পাঠাই। সেই চিঠিটি পাঠক দের জন্য বাঙলায় অনুবাদ করে প্রকাশ করছি। ফেইসবুকের একতরফা ব্যানের শিকার ভবিষ্যতেও কেউ হতে পারেন। আমার বিশ্বাস আমার এই অভিজ্ঞতা হয়তো তাদের কাজে লাগবে। অনুগ্রহ করে বাঙলা অনুবাদটি করে দিয়েছেন মাহমুদা রাজ্জাক। তাঁকে ধন্যবাদ)

আশা করি ভাল আছেন। আমি একজন বাংলাদেশি ফেসবুকার, আমার প্রায় চৌষট্টি হাজার বন্ধু ও অনুসারী আছে। সম্প্রতি ফেসবুকের অন্যায্য অহেতুক ও জবাবদিহিবিহীন সেন্সরশিপ লাখ লাখ বাংলাদেশির জীবন এবং বাক স্বাধীনতার উপর যে নেতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়েছে তা আপনাকে জানাতে চাইছি। অনুমান করছি আপনি জানেন, ফেসবুক নীতি গত কয়েক দশকের পুরনো কাশ্মীর সংঘর্ষে নিয়ে হাজার হাজার ইউজারের মতামত সক্রিয়ভাবে সেন্সর করেছে। এবং দুঃখের বিষয় ফেসবুক উদ্দেশ্য প্রণোদিতভাবে এই বিষয়ে হাজার হাজার বাংলাদেশির পোস্ট মুছে ফেলেছে, তাদের ফেসবুকে পোস্ট করার অধিকার এক সপ্তাহ, এক মাস, অথবা তারও বেশি সময় ধরে বাধা দিয়েছে বা ব্লক করেছে। কয়েক সপ্তাহ আগে আমার কাশ্মীর সংক্রান্ত একটি পোস্ট ফেসবুক থেকে রিমুভ করে আমাকে এক সপ্তাহের জন্য ব্যান করা হয়েছিল। আমি এর প্রতিকার চেয়ে আবেদন করেছিলাম, কিন্তু কেউ আমার আবেদনে সাড়া দেয়নি।
যেই পোস্টটি রিমুভ করা হয়েছিল সেটির স্ক্রিনশট আমার কাছে আছে, এবং সেই পোস্টে আমি এমন কিছু পাইনি যা ফেসবুক কমিউনিটির স্ট্যান্ডার্ডকে লঙ্ঘন করতে পারে। সেই সাতদিনের পিরিয়ড শেষ হবার পরপরই আমি নাজি মেডিসিন বিষয়ক একটি মেডিকেল ব্লগ শেয়ারের কারণে আবারো এক মাসের জন্য নিষিদ্ধ হই।
কাশ্মিরের সাম্প্রতিক ঘটনায়, আমার কাছে যা মনে হয়েছে তা হলো, আপনার যে আঞ্চলিক অফিস আছে ভারতে, সেটি বাংলাদেশকেও কাভার করে, সেই আঞ্চলিক অফিসের কারণে ফেসবূক যেন ভারত সরকারের স্বার্থ দেখছে, এটি অনুচিত। একটি স্বাধীন আন্তর্জাতিক কমুনিটিভিত্তিক কোনও সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ার আচরণ এমন হতে পারে না, বরং মনে হয় এটা একটা ভারত সরকারের অধীন একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান।
কাশ্মীর প্রসঙ্গে অনলাইন সেন্সরশিপ যে ভারত সরকারের স্বার্থে, এটি পরিষ্কার। ভারতে একটি রিজিওনাল অফিস রেখে ফেসবূক ভারত সরকারকে কীভাবে সামলাবে, এটি চূড়ান্তভাবে নির্ভর করে ফেসবূক কর্তৃপক্ষের উপর। আরও সুনির্দিষ্টভাবে বলতে গেলে রিজিওনাল কনটেন্ট ম্যানেজারের উপর।
আমার বিশ্বাস, ভারতে রিজিওনাল অফিস খোলার আগে আপনি এই সকল বিষয় বিবেচনায় নিয়েছেন। যা হোক, মূল কথা হলো, ভারত সরকারের স্বার্থের প্রভাব বাংলাদেশি ফেসবুক ইউজারদের উপর পড়া উচিত নয়। এবং আপনার সিদ্ধান্তের প্রভাব সেটি ভারতীয় ইউজারদের উপর ফেলতেও পারে আবার নাও পারে। এখন প্রশ্ন হলো, আমার মত বাংলাদেশি নাগরিককে কেন ভারতীয় স্বার্থ দেখতে হবে? আমরা ভারতীয় স্বার্থ দেখছি না, শুধুমাত্র এই কারণে আমাদের পোস্ট ডিলিট করে দেওয়া হবে? এমনকি আমাদের বাংলাদেশ সরকারও আমাদের ব্যান করে না। ফেসবূকের আরোপিত এই নিষেধাজ্ঞা পদ্ধতি হতাশাজনক । বাংলাদেশে ফেসবূকের যথেষ্ট ইউজার এবং ভাল ব্যবসা আছে। আপনি আমাদের দেশে একটি বাংলাদেশ ভিত্তিক অফিস সেট আপ করার প্ল্যান করেন না কেন?
আমরা প্রথম প্রজন্মের বাঙালী ব্লগার এবং অনলাইন ইউজার, যারা ফেসবুককে কেবল সামাজিক যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম নয়, বরং জাতিসঙ্ঘের মানবাধিকার সংক্রান্ত নীতিমালা মেনে এটাকে একটি জাতীয় এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মানবাধিকার এক্টিভিজমের প্লাটফর্মে পরিণত করেছি। আমাদের অনেক পোস্ট লক্ষ লক্ষ ইউজার পড়েন। আপনার প্লাটফর্ম অনেক অনলাইন ব্যবসায়ীরা ব্যবহার করছে, আমরাই ফেসবুকে কনটেন্ট তৈরি করছি। কিন্তু আমরাই যদি ফেসবুকে অনৈতিক সেন্সরশিপের শিকার হই, স্বাভাবিকভাবেই তাহলে এটা ধরে নিতে হয় যে, আপনি আমাদের বিকল্প খুঁজতে বাধ্য করছেন। আমি একান্তভাবে বিশ্বাস করি, এই সেন্সরশিপের সিদ্ধান্ত বাংলাদেশে আপনার ব্যবসা ও উপস্থিতিকে প্রভাবিত করবে।
সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমের জনপ্রিয়তার জোয়ার ভাটা অনেকটা নির্ভর করে এর সম্পাদকীয় নীতিমালা দিয়ে, সমাজের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন মতকে এক্ সূতায় গেঁথে রেখে। আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি ফেসবুক একটি মানসম্পন্ন বৈশ্বিক কমিউনিটি নয়, বরং এটি একটি ভারতীয় কোম্পানির মত আচরণ করছে, যারা ভারত সরকারের স্বার্থ দেখে। সর্বোপরি শেষকথা এই, ফেসবুকের একজন বাংলাদেশি সাবস্ক্রাইবার এবং মেম্বার হিসাবে আমি ফেসবুকের ভারতীয় কমিউনিটির অংশ হতে আগ্রহী নই। তাই আমার মনে হয়, সিদ্ধান্ত আপনার, বাংলাদেশে ফেসবুক কি ভারতীয় ফেসবুক হবে অথবা ভারতের স্বার্থ দেখবে অথবা একটি মুক্ত স্বাধীন স্বচ্ছ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল কমিউনিটি হবে। আশা করি আপনি এই ব্যাপারটি জরুরিভাবে খতিয়ে দেখবেন এবং আপনার কর্মীদেরকে আমার বিষয়টি পুনর্বিবেচনা করতে অনুরোধ করবেন ।

I hope this letter finds you in your best spirits. I am a Bangladeshi Facebooker with around sixty four thousand friends and followers. I am writing to inform you about the Facebook’s recent unfair, unjustified and unaccountable censorship that has been negatively affecting the life and freedom of speech of online millions in Bangladesh.
I guess you are aware of the fact that Facebook’s policies have effectively censored thousands of users who expressed their opinions on the decades-old conflict plaguing Kashmir. And, Unfortunately, Facebook removed many posts of thousands specifically Bangladeshi’s, and restrict and block their right to post in Facebook for period ranging from one week to a month or more. One of my posts was removed by Facebook and imposed a seven day ban on me some weeks ago. I appealed twice but nobody responded to my appeal. I have screenshot of that post which was removed by Facebook and I did not find anything which might violate the Facebook community standard. I have again been banned for a month soon after completion of the period of seven days for sharing a medical blog on Nazi medicine.
In regard to the recent issue of online censorship on Kashmir, to me it appears that being your regional office which covers Bangladesh as well located in India it appears Facebook is upholding the interest of the Indian government which it should not. It’s not a behavior like an independent International community based social media, but like a company under the jurisdiction of Indian government. It is clear that online censorship on Kashmir in social media, is the interest specifically of Indian Government. How Facebook would face and handle Indian Government keeping a regional office in India – finally it depends on Facebook management, more specifically Regional Content Manager. I believe before taking decision on the opening the regional office in India you have considered all these factors. However, the bottom line is Indian Govt interest should not have effect on Bangladeshi FB users and depending on your decision it may or may not affect Indian users. Now the question is Why should a Bangladeshi citizen like me have to peruse or comply the state interest of India? Should our post be deleted just because we do not uphold the interest of Indian State? Even our government of Bangladesh does not impose such a ban on us. The ban which the Facebook is imposing on us off and on is quite frustrating. Facebook has enough users and a good business in Bangladesh. Why don’t you plan to set up a Bangladesh-specific office in our country?
We are the first generation bloggers and online users who made Facebook popular in Bangladesh as a platform not only for social interaction but also as a platform of national and international human rights activism in-compliance with United Nations. Many of our posts are read by millions sometimes. Your platform is being used for lots of online business and we create the contents for Facebook. But if we are subjected to such unfair censorship by Facebook, naturally it means you are forcing us to find alternative. I believe strongly this decision of censorship will affect seriously your presence & business in Bangladesh.
Rise & Fall of a social network depends heavily on the editorial policy of keeping different views of a society together. I see FB social network your organization is not behaving like a standard international community, rather it is working like an Indian company who serves the interest of the Indian government. And Last but not least as a Bangladeshi member of FB and well- subscribed users on Facebook I am not interested to be a member of an INDIAN FACEBOOK community.
Therefore, I think it is time for you to decide whether Facebook in Bangladesh should be an INDIAN FACEBOOK or sympathizer to the repressive Indian Interest or an open, inclusive and transparent International Community. I hope you will look into this matter urgent basis and request your executives to review my case as soon as possible.
