To curb the flood situation in Bihar India has opened all gates of the Farakka barrage on the Bangladesh border. On being asked what can happen if the gates of Farakka are opened, experts of Bangladesh’s Flood Forecast Centre and Joint River Commission said that India had built the barrage to hold back or store water for use during the dry season. But during the ongoing rainy season because of the overflowing river the gates of Farakka are to remain opened naturally.
However, India says that it opened the gates following consultation with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s Flood Forecast and Warning Centre says, if India opens all gates of Farakka, 11 cusecs of water can flow into the Padma which cannot trigger a flood situation in Bangladesh.
But the water coming from the Indian side has already begun flowing above the danger level in the Padma. It’s clear that the riverbed of the Padma being filled with silt, it is not in a position to carry water as much as it could some decades ago.
Now the question is: Why did the Flood Forecast and Warning Centre of Bangladesh say before that the opening of the gates of Farakka would not create a flood situation in Bangladesh? Why are the Bangladeshi government officials speaking in a tone sounding like that of Indian officials?
They have been appointed to serve the citizens of Bangladesh. But, factually, they are working in a style which shows that they are none but a BUNCH OF SLAVES of India.
বিহারের বন্যা মোকাবেলার জন্য বাংলাদেশের দিকের ফারাক্কার সবগুলো গেইট খুলে দেয়া হয়েছে। এই সময়ে ফারাক্কার গেইট খুলে দিলে কী সমস্যা হতে পারে সেটা জানতে চাইলে। বাংলাদেশের বন্যা পূর্বাভাস কেন্দ্র এবং যৌথ নদী কমিশনের কর্মকর্তারা বলছেন, সাধারনত শুষ্ক মৌসুমে পানি ধরে রাখার জন্য এ গেটগুলো তৈরি করেছে ভারত। কিন্তু এখন নদীতে পানি প্রবাহ এমনিতেই বেশি থাকায় গেটগুলো বন্ধ থাকার কথা নয়।
যদিও ফারাক্কায় গেটগুলো খুলে দেবার বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশকে আগেই নোটিশ দিয়ে জানানো হয়েছে এবং এনিয়ে বাংলাদেশের সাথে পরামর্শ করা হয়েছে বলে ভারত জানিয়েছে। এছাড়াও বাংলাদেশের বন্যা পূর্বাভাস ও সতর্কীকরণ কেন্দ্র বলছে, গেইট খুলে দিলে ১১ লাখ কিউসেক পানির প্রবাহ যদি বাংলাদেশের ভেতরে আসে তাহলে বাংলাদেশ অংশে পদ্মায় পানি বাড়বে কিন্তু বন্যা পরিস্থিতির তৈরি হবে না।
পদ্মার বুক ভরাট হয়ে যাওয়ায় পদ্মায় পানি ধরে রাখার ক্ষমতা নষ্ট হয়েছে। এই প্রবল পানির প্রবাহ বাংলাদেশে ঢুকে এর মধ্যেই বিপদ সীমার উপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে পদ্মার পানি।
বাংলাদেশের বন্য পুর্বাভাস ও সতর্কীকরন কেন্দ্র কোন আক্কেলে বলেছিল বন্যা পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হবেনা? ভারতের পক্ষের সাফাই কেন বাংলাদেশের সরকারী কর্তারা দেয়? তারা কি বাংলাদেশের জনগনের সেবক নাকি ভারতের ক্রীতদাস?
