Following the meeting between Khaleda Zia and Sushma Swaraj the headline of a PRATHAM ALO report read: BHAROT ANGSHOGRAHONMOOLOK NIRBACHIN DEKHTE CHAY (India wants to witness participatory elections in Bangladesh). Did the Pratham Alo reporter who wrote the report and the newspaper’s copy editors go inside the hearts of Swaraj and PM Modi and find out that they really want this? What Swaraj said on this issue may not be what the government or the ruling party leaders in India actually want.
Following a simple rule of journalism the headline should have been something like: “Bharot angshograhonmoolok nirbachon dekhte chay, Sushma Swaraj bolechhen” or “India wants to see participatory elections in Bangladesh: Sushma Swaraj”.
Pratham Alo is the leader among Bengali language newspapers in Bangladesh. We expect neutral reports from this newspaper.
খালেদা জিয়া-সুষমা স্বরাজ বৈঠকের বরাত দিয়ে প্রথম আলো খবরের শিরোনাম করেছে, “ভারত অংশগ্রহণমূলক নির্বাচন দেখতে চায়”। যেই সাংবাদিক এই রিপোর্ট করেছে সেকি মোদী আর সুষমা স্বরাজের মনের ভিতরে ঢুকে জেনে এসেছে ভারত কী চায়? সুষমা স্বরাজ হয়তো এই কথা বলেছে, সেটা ভারতের মনের কথা নাও হতে পারে।
সাংবাদিকতার ন্যুনতম নীতি হিসেবে প্রথম আলোর রিপোর্টের শিরোনাম হওয়া উচিৎ ছিল, “সুষমা স্বরাজ বলেছেন যে, ভারত অংশগ্রহণমূলক নির্বাচন দেখতে চায়।”
প্রথম আলোর মতো বাংলাদেশের প্রধাণ দৈনিকের কাছে আমাদের প্রত্যাশা তারা নৈর্ব্যক্তিকভাবে খবর পরিবেশন করুক।
