State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda recently distributed some goats and chickens among people in Dumuria, Khulna. One goat died within some hours after it was given to a family. After a newspaper carried the news of the death of the goat, local journalist Abdul Latif Morol shared that news on his Facebook page. Now the journalist has been arrested after Subrata Fauzdar, an #AwamiLeague supporter, filed a suit against him. Police officer Sukumar Biswas said, by sharing the news in the social media the journalist defamed the minister and so he has been arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act.
This incident is enough to understand how repressive the Section 57 of the ICT Act is. The international community should know that Bangladesh has become unlivable for people who seek a healthy democracy and society.
খুলনার ডুমুরিয়াতে মৎস ও পশুসম্পদ প্রতিমন্ত্রী নারায়ন চন্দ্র চন্দ দুস্থ মানুষদের মধ্যে কিছু গবাদিপশু বিতরণ করেন। সেই বিতরণ করা পশুর মধ্যে একটি ছাগল সেদিন রাতেই মারা যায়। এটা নিয়ে স্থানীয় পত্রিকায় একটি খবর ছাপা হয়, যে বিতরণ করা ছাগলটি মারা গেছে। এই খবরটি একজন সাংবাদিক লতিফ মোড়ল তার ফেইসবুকে শেয়ার করেন। সেই সাংবাদিকের নামে স্থানীয় আওয়ামীলীগ কর্মি সুব্রত ফৌজদার ৫৭ ধারায় মামলা করলে থানার ওসি সুকুমার বিশ্বাস লতিফ মোড়লকে গ্রেপ্তার করে। মামলার কারণ হিসেবে বাদী বলেছে, এই খবর শেয়ার করায় নাকি মন্ত্রীর সন্মানহানী হয়েছে।
৫৭ ধারা কি পরিমানে নিপীড়ক আইন সেটা বুঝতে হলে এই ঘটনাই যথেষ্ট। আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়কে আজকে বুঝতে হবে বাংলাদেশে কোন সুস্থ মানুষের যারা একটা সুস্থ সমাজ এবং ন্যুনতম গণতন্ত্র চায়, তাঁদের বেচে থাকার মতো কোন পরিবেশ নেই।
